Ok, I finally decided on what I am taking to NYC next week-end:
40D gripped, Sigma 10-20mm (rental), 28-105mm, 50mm, 70-210mm and 430EX.
I was going to make my own messenger style bag, until my sewing machine broke - so no inserts. Plan B was to buy domke inserts, but no one has them instock. So, I'm just going to order a Crumpler. Would everything I plan on taking (plus extras like CF, cell phone, small wallet) fit comfortably in the 6 MDH?

It should all fit; I have the 6MDH and I've fit before:
350D gripped,
Canon 10-22
Canon 17-55
Canon Nifty
Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS
Canon 580ex
You should be good.

Yeah, you should be able to fit all of that. Personally I don't love the way a body+grip fits in that bag, so if it were me I'd say skip the grip, but it should still fit without any issues. :)

I ditched my grip after getting the 5MDH. I wanted a small bag for a few items. Then I realized small and griped cameras doesn't go together. It's amazing how much space that thing takes up.

To be on the safe side and make sure you really have room for all of that and then some odds and ends... I'd go with the 7MDH instead.

I'm about to purchase a 7MDH but I can't find a popular photo website like B&H, Adorama etc. including Amazon.com that offers the bag in the Khaki with green interior. Does anyone have a site that has that choice in color other than going through Crumpler directly?

You can fit all that? I can barely fit a 350D Gripped with the fifty mounted, a 28 2.8, 70-200L and a 580EX II in my 7MDH...
...maybe its my packing style...

Funny. I just bought that same bag from B&H on Saturday. Brown with the green insides.

UPS will be delivering my 6MDH ordered from B & H in about 2 hours. The one I got was the brown exterior.

I've seen the brown with the green. There is also a Khaki (tan) with the green that I'm interested in. None of the sites post it but I'm just going to call and hope they can differentiate between the two colors. Thanks.

I think you are a little confused. :) Without knowing where you're from (assuming you are from the States), the following colors are offered by Crumpler (straight from their website):
- Brown/Tan/Oatmeal with Green interior
- Black/Gunmetal with Beige/Oatmeal interior (that's the one I got)
- Red with Skyblue interior
- Baby Blue with Orange interior

I guess I assumed there was a different shade of brown available. The bag I saw looked much lighter than what I saw offered on the various sites. I attributed to the color that shows up on my laptop. I called a Crumpler warehouse in Brooklyn NY and the individual said the brown is more of a tan/khaki vs. dark brown. That is why I questioned the actual color. Hey, worse comes to worse, I send it back. no big thing. thanks.

If you want to wait a day, mine is to be delivered tomorrow afternoon, I can post up pictures for you.

How do you pack it?
For me, i can't really emulate all that anymore as that was all rented glass (thanks Roger @ lensrentals) for a trip to Germany...but here's how I packed it:
you have the center main compartment, and to each side is the two "half" compartments.
Start by putting the 70-200 2.8 IS into smaller half compartment, and put the flash into the other half (make sure it's the same side as the 70-200/biggest lens as the flash's square shape lets you flatten it against the side.
On the other side, put 2 out of the remaining 3 lenses (Nifty, 17-55, 10-22) into each of the remaining halves, and mount the third lens onto the camera (gripped).
Now that you have all 4 halves full, the center compartment is where you stick the camera, lens first into (almost like a holster) with it oriented with the top/bottom of the camera lined up to the front/back of the bag. Make sure the spiffy POTN camera strap goes in first before the lens - camera isn't fully suspended by the sides (lens cap sits on top of the strap), plus there's a big mess of strap of you leave it on top.
There you have it -
*note 1* Adjust the dividers a little as necessary (ie you need more room for the 70-200 than the flash, so the space bias shouldn't be 50/50, more 60/40)
*note 2* If one of your unmounted lenses is the Nifty (highly recommended), you have enough room above the nifty to put a charger or two :)
Hope that helps!

If you wouldn't mind posting photos, that would be great. Also, let me know if the shoulder pad is included. :D

It's SUPPOSED to be. I've only heard of one person not getting it with theirs.

You got packing issues. I have a review up on the 7MDH with 70-200, 100-400, 430EX, 20D w/grip, 18-50, 10-20, nifty, and a bunch of other stuff.
Even modified (inserts) for a 14" laptop and camera gear.

Hmmm... this answers the exact question I had.
I was debating between the 6 and the 7 MDH. The only thing I am adding to the gear below is a 10-22 so I think the 6MDH is all I need for a walk around day bag.
Also planning on getting a 100 macro, but dont think i'll be lugging that around all the time.

Umm, I bought the bag from B&H. Let me take a few shots and upload it. I thought I had taken a few shots of it before but I can't find it on my hard drive at the moment. Mine is the black / brownish one. I actually wanted the black / baby blue one but I guess B&H didn't offer it.
All your gear should fit. I have a 30d mounted with 17-40L and in the same slot I slide the 50mm in it. The side slots seem to fit 4 lens for me without the hood.

All of the gear will fit. I looked at both the 6 and 7 MDH bags; the 6 MDH seemed just perfect for my 40D with 24-70 mounted and two other lenses plus other "stuff" (flash, extra batteries, cell phone, Ipod, etc) for a day of walking around.

Sorry about the delay, it didn't come in until later in the evening and I was already out doing things.
It's got a darker brown around most of the outside and light tan on the sides. It's really not a dark brown like you would think, it's like a darker khaki you would see on cargo pants or something. I like it. It's still stuffed to the brim though.

Good photos. I can't wait to get my bag! I can't believe we get so personal with a camera bag, but then again, it DOES carry a lot of expensive gear and we SHOULD be that way. :D
