Just a note. YOU MUST REMOVE THE BATTERY GRIP TO INSTALL THIS FIRMWARE. I just did the upgrade and had a little panic attack. The upgrade required you remove the battery from the camera to complete the update. When I updated the firmware and removed the battery from the grip for a reboot the LCD would not turn on. Removed the the grip and put the battery in the camera directly and everything worked fine. Put the grip back on and now we will see if this firmware fixed anything. So to save yourself trouble, just remove the grip before you begin :) . I dont know if this information is in the instructions from Canon but I dont read them, so for everyone else who doesnt read insturctions, this is for you (unless it isnt in the instructions, then this is for everyone!) :)

Regarding removing the grip; I had to remove the BG-E2 to un-freeze my 20D when it locked up. Simply removing the batteries did not work.

No grip here. Just installed the update, no problems.

I did my upgrade with the battery grip on and two fully charged batteries installed with no problems. The instructions didn't say anything about the grip did they? I didn't see that. But I had no problems either.

Sooooo.....Is this thing fixed now?

I want to upgrade my wife's 10D, but am majorly hesitant due to these odd issues with this camera.

I don't own a 20D, but I noticed over on Rob Galbraith's forum that there have been a couple of cases of 20D's going completely dead after the firmware upgrade..

It doesn't seem to do it to all cameras. It could be that the upgrade was done wrong... (ie, losing power in the middle of the upgrade). That can make any model go dead...

Well, I'm sure this has happened before with other cameras when people have updated firmware. Probably a user issue (but maybe not in all cases).

I remember talking to a rep at a store last week about the 300D, and the Wasia firmware. I mentioned I used it and loved it for months, and pretty much everybody I know that has used has had great success.
He proceeded to tell me that he heard nothing but bad things.
When I asked him to elaborate, he said that a few of his friends had 300D's. When they tried to install the Wasia firmware, the camera "crapped out" on them.
Again I asked him to elaborate.
He said "well, I think when they tried to install the firmware, they got some error message with the installation program or something".
*lol*
This is a prime case of a perfectly fine piece of code being called junk or problematic, when the cause was user error.

I just installed the Firmware upgrade, and I did it with the grip installed with no problem. Of course, you have to pop both batteries out to reset the camera.

I awoke this morning to the news that the firmware update was available. I downloaded and installed it before my first cup of coffee, which means I did it with my eyes closed.

That should be encouragement for those of you who might be squeamish about such an undnertaking. Follow the directions, and you'll have no trouble.

One suggestion: have your coffee first. It will go a little more smoothly.
