As you know, 40D's and 5D's create 12MB RAW files. Are there any other 40D (or 5D) owner's that use 8GB or higher cards for weddings? I have several 1GB and 2GB cards, but I get aggitated with having to swap cards, etc. I would like to use a single 12GB III card which will hold 1000 images (roughly). Some say "eggs in one basket is a risk"..... some say "it's worse to swap cards, in out, in out, etc.". Thanks.... Danny

My next card is a transcend 16gb. I too am tired of small cards that I pay way too much for due to brand name.

I've got 3 8GB cards... Two are Transcend and one is A-Data... The Transcends are 120x, while the A-Data is 100x write speeds... I've had the Transcends for almost 2 years now and the A-Data's I just got 3 months ago... No problems whatsoever with any of them <knock on wood>... The 16GB's are something I'd consider down the road when I upgrade to a MkII or III Series body... For now, the 8GB's suffice nicely...

I'm considering ditching my smaller cards for larger ones and taking advantage of the 1D II's dual-write backup feature. Slap an 8GB SDHC in one slot and an 8GB CF in the other and I'd only have to switch out once or twice on the longest of days.

Have a 16gb Transcend CF on order.

Already been using their 4gb CFs for years now with no problems. The whole eggs in one basket is a moot point as if its an important shoot I'll be using both cards on the 1D and right now a 16gb CF & SD combo costs ~100pounds which is well worth it.

I use SanDisk Extreme III & IV 4GB and 8Gb cards but i wouldnt dare using anything larger than that just in case. I never had a memory card failure but if and it can happen i dont like the idea of loosing too much data.

I just got the Transcend 16Gb card @ 133x. I have 2 2Gb Transcend 120x cards. Not sure why it is, but the 16Gb is S-L-O-W to write. How slow? Not sure, how do you time it? But it's slower than the 2Gb cards. For instance, when shooting a burst, I can shoot more on the 2Gb cards before the buffer fills up than on the 16Gb card.

Am using an 8GB Extreme III card on my Rebel XTi now. Have had no problems. Have been thinking about getting a 40D, and if I do I'll likely get a 16GB Extreme III card to go with it. They're $189 at NewEgg now, and I believe they have a mail-in rebate going also (though I don't like to depend on those).

I use Sandisk Extreme III and Extreme IV 8GB cards. I had one fail during a shoot. I just stopped using it and swapped over to the another card. I recovered all the images from the failed card at home later using Sandisk's Rescue Pro utility that came with the cards. It wasn't a drama.

I've got one 4GB extreme and a 16GB extreme. It's nice not to have to change cards. When I went to Rwanda and saw the gorillas, you could only go in with what you could carry or fit in your pocket. I shot as many frames as I could on the 16GB so I wouldn't have to worry about changing cards and perhaps accidentally leaving one behind in the jungle.

I've been using an 8GB Ultra II and a 16GB Extreme III for awhile with no issues.

Cosworth, is there a decently priced Canadian retailer carrying the Transcend 16GBs or are you buying cross border?

I use 8GB cards almost exclusively now,. I still have a few 4GB cards, but have been shooting with the 8GB primarily for over a year.
The only reason I don;t have 16GB cards yet is by the time the price got so good, I already had six 8GB cards, so I just don;t think Ineed any.

I did a quick comparison of cards and prices per gigabyte, and they are roughly in the same range. Now that I have a 16Gb, I'd just as soon have gotten 2 8gb cards for around the same price. Seriously, it would take a lot of shooting to fill up 16 gigabytes, even with 40D RAW's, and a pair of 8's would be safer.

I use 4GB CF for RAW and 2GB SD for JEPG. I like being able to burn a card to a DVD directly without interuption and besides, I get the feeling I don't take as many pictures as many do.

were you able to use the card again or did you pitch it?

This is very good information! I'm a little hesitant to put 1000 wedding images on one card, but it sure would be convenient. I am aiming towards buying 1 - 12GB III card for $149. There were some rebates going on, but I believe I missed out. What ticks me off is.... whatever I buy today will be half price in 6-12 months..... but that's the game we play with technology. Uhhg.
