this was a really tough shoot. it's so hard to get these guys in focus at night :/

could do with a crop but i like him centered for some reason. wish he was facing me!

I like the totally black background, it's pretty cool!

And digirebel, you can still ride, just get a bike with a longer toptube!

No such thing as getting too big for BMX, I ride a 21 in tt with 8in rise bars (I'm 6'4 also) and have no problem with the bike being too small;)

Anyway I really like the second one, the first one is good but the second one is much less grainy

I'm 6'3" and now that I'm used to it have no problems, even some advantages in the distance I can reach to put the bike in the right place on a ramp when I'm a bit short on a gap. I started off riding mountain bikes in skate parks, thinking I was too big for bmx (I didn't start until I was 27), but now the thought of trying what I do now on a bmx on a MTB scares me silly. I ride my much shorter brother's old bike, and it feels good, apart from the knee room when I have thick pads on.

As to the photos, I love the look of them, what processing did you use, one of the standard sepia actions in photoshop?

ta. started with a sepia preset in lightroom and bumped up the highlights, darken overall, desaturate and messed with curves here and there. tbh that's going off memory as i've started with a new db in lightroom and all work has been reset :/

cheers

nice shots man.
just out of interest, how were you focusing them if it was so dark?

thanks ryandavid. i was using manual focus for most of the night . point on the ground at about the right spot and auto focus. take a pic and check it by zooming in and adjust as best i could for the next person coming through in the same place. take a few there and move on to the next ramp.

hahahaha...thanks for the responses to my post...so many adamant riders out there about sticking to it...well to be completely honest apart from getting taller i got very busy and have fallen away from it...i still check out videos and stuff and watch competitions, i still love it...but my lack of free time (my friends too) to go out and ride now is the biggest reason :(

I like this one!

I'm also a 6ft 4 bmx rider!

Oh wow. Old thread is old. This is a blast from the past. I would love to try this type of shooting again with my current gear.

It is pretty hard. Some of the cameras today though take great high iso pics so it does become gear dependant.
