For some reason the F-stop diaphragm will not operate when using this lens and the 20D. It seems to work fine on my EOS-3 and D60 bodies, just not on the 20D (camera shows error 99). The lens is actually a rebadged Sigma 70-210 F2.8 and is a great lens (albeit slow to focus when compared to the Canon equivalent). Anybody have any answers? Thanks!

Run a ssearch for "Sigma error99"

This is an unforunately common problem involving Sigma lenses that started with the Elan7... and includes the 10D 300D and 20D.

Older Sigma lenses will either only shoot wide open .. or in mosst cases will not allow the camera to function at all.

Normally,.. you can contact Sigma and get the lens "re-chipped" ... and I know for a fact that the SIgma 70-210 f/2.8 in one lens where this works well... however... :?

The fact that your lens is branded "Quataray"... and was made for Ritz cameras... I do not know if you can turn to Sigma?

You may actually need to talk to Ritz (good luck there... )

Thanks so much for the info. Perhaps it's time for an upgrade to Canon glass. I must have gotten the lens (Quantaray) at least 15 years ago for an EOS 620. It has served me well, although it still works with the D60, and fully open (F2.8) ON THE 20D. Don't know if can be upgraded, but at least I know it's not a problem with just this particular lens or the 20D.
