On dpreview there are rumors about a recall of 20D units with serial number below 0420107xxx

Is this just the usual dpreview madness or could this be true?

If its true my camera would be one of the affected ones as the sriral numer starts with 033 but I have no problems and have updated the firmware today.

btw I have sent an email to Canon Denmark to get this confirmed or denied.

I see no problem here.

a. If true then Canon have identified the problem and will rectify it on existing cameras. Future production will be fine.

b. If false then most likely the firmware update is all that is needed, problem solved.

I am confident that Canon stands behind their products and will do everything they can to rectify any issues that arise. My 10D is over a year old and has had over 10,000 shutter activations without a problem, I think that there will be 20D users saying the same thing in 2005/2006.

Well I just see one problem if a recall will be done and that is waiting time for replacement.

But I hope its just the usual dpreview madness which blows everything out of proportions.

I avoid DP like I avoid Ritz/Kits/Wolf/Camera World, et. al.

There's no place like home... 8)

I know I know I should stay away from dp

Anyway I sent an email to the product manager in Canon Denmark and he has heard nothing of a recall being in the works. He is in close contact with the european product manager so I expect would get informed about such a thing. In any case he would double check and get back to me when he knows more.

I think that post was somebody fishing for trouble.

First of all, the serial number he posted was wrong.
Then when somebody pointed it out, he made a correction saying he made a mistake.
Plus, methinks the number he posted for the serial number (the corrected one) is much larger than any of the current serial numbers.
Does anybody out there actually have one with a serial number that is larger than the one he posted?

I have a funny feeling the guy who made the original post is having a little chuckle reading all the posts in all the forums.
