Yeah, I walk all over Manhattan on the weekends.. I don't know why.. but there's just nothing for me to do on the weekends.. except for probably going to catch a movie with my girlfriend and walking around Manhattan.
It's kinda hard to miss 3 guys holding 3 big white lenses ;)
Hah, true true. ;) Why didn't you stop us and say anything? Or did we seem like we had an agenda or something?

I'll be in the neighborhood :) I wasn't going to go because of the rain/snow forecast, but since that's changed to partly sunny in the 40's, I'm game. I'll keep an eye out for the group of white lenses w/ red rings :D I'll be with my friends and their kids, so I probably won't be able to make my way to Starbucks. I'm going to try to squeeze my way to the corner of Bayard and Mott Streets...the lion dancers usually make a few stops along the way to accept the Red Envelopes....hoping this is a good spot. I'll be the asian dude w/ a 7MDH in black and a 40D.

Someone should strap a POTN posterboard to their back lol.

tchan are you coming too?

Shot snow jam today - a bust. Nothing going on. Walked over the Brooklyn bridge today for fun. Shopped a bit at Century 21. Picked up a voice and chilled. Tonight I go back to Brooklyn with my tripod this time. Pano time.

Then I'll wander a bit, buy some crappy pizza and walk it off. Airline lost my luggage. It just showed up. Wore the same clothes for 37 hours. You'd think I was coming from MARS or something.

Maybe a SoHo wander.

Looking forward to tomorrow morning guys n girls. But I'll take the C to Canal and walk a bit. Early.

Can't miss me. 1 series. 70-200 or a 17-40. Tamrac sling bag. Monopod. ;)

I live in lower Westchester, I was planning on getting there at 11:00am, but if some of you are getting there early because you live far away, you can call my cell and we can meet up. (914)-618-2591

I'm not getting there too early but, if you don't mind, I'm taking down your number to have someone to call just in case.

Yeah, I'm all set here as well. Got myself a nice pair of gloves too. (Figure I would need a pair...I never wear gloves but looks like I'll need a pair tomorrow)

Taking either the R or 6 to Canal street.

See you nerds at noon.:D

Cell: 347-239-4816

Asian dude, 6'7", built like a tank... you can't miss me.

Naaah...just kidding. Asian dude short (surprise...) 1D MKIII + 16-35 or 70-200, LowePro SlingShot 200, black coat that is obviously too big for my size.
...oh yeah, and new pair of gloves :-)

Hey Cos,
What a coincidence.
I was at Century 21 in Long Island buying myself a pair of gloves.
Today was "go shopping with the wife" day...you know...sacrifices need to be made in order to get a "freedom day" like Sunday.

Same clothes for 37 hours?
So in other words, you blended in just fine in NYC.

Hey if I wake up early tomorrow, can I join you guys? I had a busy day today, as usual, the whole day was spent at my son's interminable chess tournaments. Good news is, The next tournament is March, so my Saturdays have opened up somewhat.

Don't worry about missing each other tomorrow, Starbucks at Centre (why is it spelled the British way by the way) and Canal is a good place to meet. It is near the festivities, yet far enough from the bedlam, providing us ample space to meet. Dress warmly guys.

From Starbucks we will head east towards Mott St, and then turn left (northward). The parade officially starts at Mott and Hester Sts. but we will keep on moving northward as the crowd thins out and the performers are still fresh and raring to go.

I will be using my 17-40 most of the time. I am going to bring 3 or 4 lenses more, as well as a G cam and a monopod. Be sure to fully charge up your batteries, cold can really suck out power.

See you all tomorrow!

There isn't as big a community as in NYC here in the DC area. The Chinatown parade in DC is really small. The mall was better. Jim went to the parade last year. Which was better?

Guys, I apologize for not being there. The parade was extremely short this year and ended a little past 2PM, way before the projected 4PM. There were a handful of us there and we did wait for a while for people to trickle in (I was actually the last one to check in that group, as I did some street shooting after the parade). As most of us haven't had lunch yet, we wandered down Grand Ave in search of a restaurant that would accommodate us and ended up several blocks away. The burgers were decent, but I would rather have had Chinese (all Asian restaurants were packed though) but hey, we got to see Brooke Shields and her daughter.

Nick, we tried to get hold of you but kept getting your voice mail as soon as we settled there, and up to beyond 4PM. I left a message on your voice mail. I again apologize, I should have gone back there at 4, but at that time we were wolfing down the grub.

Anyway, I hope we can do better next time, perhaps during an event where there is substantially less people so we're together all the time. I will be putting a thread at Urban soon so we can post our pics, if nobody has done so yet. Cos, if you have pics ready, you can go start the thread if you like.

LOL Nick, you're a riot. That parade was so crazy, it's so easy to loose track of each other.

Again, thanks for showing us the way Pio, and hope we can do this again in the near future!

Me, shomat and tumana were actually went to Starbucks at 2pm but we didn't notice anyone. Then again we stayed where the parade started so it ended sooner for us. We stood around starbucks for five minutes and then took off and made another loop into the parade to see if we could catch you guys and ended back at starbucks a quarter to 4 to see a few POTNers. We passed by Wo Hop and thought you might be inside =)

I'm loving that blonde hair Mark, I think you should really dye it =)

Looks like you guys had a good time meeting up.

I get tied up with work and I forget to check the boards. I guess I'll try and make next years meet.

Oh jeez, Andy? Right? Damn it's been awhile. Let me dig through my shots and post that first one that I took with my new lens two years ago. Remember that? :D Opening it in the streets for the first NYC POTN meet? Ahh the memories...

That was a good time. I found the photo in the 2006 thread. http://calzinger.net/uploads/misc/IMG_6828.jpg

You're in Hoboken now? It'll be easier for you to make some meets.

Wow Andy, now that's a blast from the past. From L to R, we have Chris's (Calzinger) Dad (wallet is lighter because he just bought stuff for Chris at B&H), James (jwbker), Andy (snafu) and who's that dashing guy on the right, the one with dimples? Hmmmm .. errr .. oh yeah that's me.

Seriously though, I am quite thrilled with the turnout this year, lots of people. Let us hope we can sustain this, and meet for shoots, or perhaps just chill out in some diner and share photos and techniques. I really enjoyed putting a face to the POTN handles.

Mark, that silver sensation gave me better results than anything I've taken with my new camera so far. Then again, we're comparing like 50k actuations to 9k, comparing probably over forty shoots to barely over four.

By the way, might be putting my 70-200 2.8L up for sale this week. ;)

Why are you selling Chris? Hey Mark, did you put up your photos yet?

Wow, Mark really did it. That was a great camera. Switching to Nikon now Mark?

He and I see eye to eye. The D3 and the 200 f/2 VR are a pretty crazy combo. He can buy that for almost what he gets for his 1Ds Mk.III. He's a bit short but he can make up the difference I'm sure.

He got a pretty good lease rate on the Bentley...

Good lease rate indeed! That Bentley sure looks too good for street parking in NYC.

Anyway, Chris, here's a photo of you opening your brand new lens a couple of years ago during the first POTN meet here. It took me a while to dig it up.

What a great shot Pio!! Have you seen this thread? (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=455374) perhaps we should start a NYC chat thread?

Thanks Crissa! I think it's a great moment in Chris' life, opening up his first L lens. Hey I have been thinking about starting an NYC chat thread too, especially now that there seems to be a fire under t he NYC area's tog's butts. It seems everyone is itching to get together :)

When would you be getting together again? Anytime again this year? I'm practically walking distance to Manhattan.

Damn! I missed it!
