You guys are killing us over here in the U.S.A. with those kingfisher shots. That has to be the prettiest bird in the UK. Great capture of this cutie...steve

A stunning bird and a very good shot, but you have sharpening halos. Sharpening is a useful tool to get back detail that is lost when downsizing a photo for web display but when you have a dark subject against a light background you have to be very careful when applying sharpening or you'll get light borders around the dark images. One trick is to apply selective sharpening. If you use photoshop, just run a lasso around inside of the area where detail needs to be enhanced, keeping away from high contrast edges, then just apply a little sharpening to the area that you've enclosed.
