Although my 20D has performed flawlessly, even under extreme shooting, I decided to update to the new 1.04 firmware for the heck of it.
Still everything works great. But when I was looking thru my menu, I found a cool new feature. It's nice that Canon cares.

So did I but I didn't check.

Hey, I had issues with my Sigma lenses even after rechipping. I down loaded 1.0.4 and all of a sudden my Sigma lenses are focusing faster and they got sharper. My 105 Macro Portrait is so sharp you can cut yourself.

The only problem is I now have a Tamron 28 to 75 and a Sigma 28 to 105. I like the Tamron because I can come within 7 to 8" of the subject. A 1:3 ratio.

Now all I have to decide is do I want the Canon 300 F4L or the 70 to 200 F4 L or the 100 to 400 F4.5-5.6 L. All are sharp but the 300L and the 70 to 200 are the sharpiest. Whic way would guys go.

Installed the new firmware and selected "Random Lockup" - "Off"

... then slected "Pattern Baldness" - "Off"

Good one Drisley!

Now all I have to decide is do I want the Canon 300 F4L or the 70 to 200 F4 L or the 100 to 400 F4.5-5.6 L. All are sharp but the 300L and the 70 to 200 are the sharpiest. Whic way would guys go.

The 300 prime will be a sharper lens, but personally I perfer the versatility of the 70 - 200. If you don't need the length of the 100 - 400 get the 70 - 200 F/4 L (I have a 1 month old one w/ 3 yr warrant for sale, check the for sale board or PM me if you'd like more details). If you need the 400 focal length (640mm really when you factor in the 1.6x crop) and are ok with slightly softer images at the long end, and not being able to stop down past 5.6 get the 100 - 400.

To sum up:

The 300 prime will probably be the sharpest but least versatile lens. The 70 - 200 will be the most versatile lens as long as you're not doing a ton of long distance wildlife shots. If you need the longer focal length get the 100 - 400 and sacrifice a couple f stops and some sharpness at the long end.

OMG!
I think I'm a little scared now!
BTW, I really hope everybody in the other forums realize it's a joke.
On that link you posted roanjohn, the secoind poster told the guy to
"Wait a few minute while it's updating, then pull out the camera when it's 3/4 through. If you do the full install that option will be disabled. "
I think it's the smiley faces, etc, that make this forum much more light-hearted. They really help to convey your sentiment, and help other understand if you are joking or not.
Perhaps if DPR had emoticons, there wouldnt be so much flaming. :!:

Awesome, drisley. This is the final push I needed to get the 20d :P

BTW, I really hope everybody in the other forums realize it's a joke.

Don't be so sure about it, my friend:

...this is a hoax right?

I'm sure Canon has received at least 1 e-mail asking why the feature is missing despite the firmware upgrade LOL

**Edit: BTW, have you read the "readme file" ?
