I have been contacted by a large dept. store. They have about 150 stores nationwide and want to use three of my images. They want to print 3,000 copies of each image on canvas to sell in all of their stores. I think they would be selling for somewhere between $35-$45. I have no idea what the actual costs of printing, making the frames, packaging and shipping would be. But the amount of money they offered me seems way lower than what I was thinking. has anyone had something like this happen to them? What would be a logical amount to charge? Any idea where to start? I don't want to get ripped off, but if I say no, I would assume that they would just use someone else. So.... help me out here!
Seriously, I have been having some crazy luck recently with selling photos. I just hate trying to determine prices. I am still really new to all this.

But the amount of money they offered me seems way lower than what I was thinking. Of course they're going to offer a low price to start. They want to make as much money as possible?
I haven't done large print orders like that. I'd try to structure the deal like this:
1/ I'd put the images in a password protected gallery like PrintRoom where you can set the prices & they can order whatever they want and directly ship them to...
2/ a local art supply who will matte & frame them & ship back to the department store(S).
Not much work, you get paid, they get prints, & everyone is happy.

Thanks, but I don't think asking to print it myself would work. They will printed in China in some ginourmous factory that they probably own or something. They sell tons of this stuff, so I'm sure they know what they're doing and have all the production down perfectly.
c'mon , anyone have any random idea out there??
Think- those pictures they sell in Target of bottles of wine or alley ways in Paris or something.
except this is a store with a younger demographic.

3000 copies of each of the 3 images selling for let's say $40, that will net them $360,000 in sales. If they do this stuff all the time & produce in China their cost could be as low as $5 per unit. So a quick calculation would net them over $300,000 in profit. I think they could easily pony up $10,000 for the 3 images & still happily making a bundle of margin.
