Well, I updated with no problem. But I wouldn't be surprised to see a new firmware.

Yeah, I installed it with no problems but this is kind of scary.

I asked the danish product manager about what was going on and he tried frantically to get hold of the Canon technichians but he hasn't been able to yet - he suspected they were working overtime!

Hopefully he will get back to me soon.

btw, I did upgrade without problems.

There have been complaints about the update on other forums.. (Dpreview, Rob Galbraith and rec.photo.digital).

A few people claim the firmware update has caused the camera go completely dead.. I imagine Canon has pulled the update to check into this further..

I have it on reliable authority that ver. 1.0.4 will actually cause hair to grow on the palms of your hands and in certain rare cases, cause your gums to bleed. I suggest you wait for 1.0.4.1.

Hmmm.... Well, I read on some web site somewhere that this guy opened up the firmware file and learned that it is actually for the 40D, which will be out next December.

Belmondo, I had already flashed the camera yesterday with no problems whatsoever, but just thought that there was something fishy about them pulling it out this way. This sort of convinced me that it wasn't user error problems for people who had their cameras die while flashing them..

I really think that this is not professional at all the way Canon handled the 20D production so far. I understand market demands for speedy production, but that means nothing when you have a bad camera -for those who have bad ones..

IMO, they're just being cautious until they find out if the dead camera flashes are due to something in the firmware or user error.

Forgive me for what might come across as insensitivity or inappropriate levity concerning a subject that's obviously causing a lot of people a great deal of stress. I am not trying to make light of anyone's problems with their camera and I intended no disrespect towards any individual or group of people.

I suspect there was a rush to get this 'fix' into the owners' hands, and maybe they've found something potentially troublesome in it after the initial release. I was only taking a humorous (I thought) tack to suggest that maybe there were 'undocumented features' in v. 1.0.4.

I applied the firmware update and have observed no susbsequent problems. The one exception is that my 20D now refuses to take photos of trees. :?

I got it right the first time :) I don't think your remark/post was in any way insensitive.
