Anyone can recommend this so I can use one of my tripods as a flash stand?

swivel bracket

Also, the plastic foot stand that came with your 580EX II has a threaded hole in the bottom for mounting on a tripod or light stand.

I can be cheap and use the plastic stands that came with it or can spend 14 buckazoids for this umbrella adapter and when I get myself an umbrella I can already be prepared.

N&B, the swivel bracket can come in handy when mounting your flash in various ways. Here's a couple of examples.

Whether at a 90 deg. angle or used straight up, it can be adjusted in many ways. The two reversable studs can also be adjusted so the angle and flash direction will be in the desired position.

Cool. I was just wondering whether there was any BIG advantages over the ones that comes with the flash already.

Mike- how did you attach the bracket to the clamp? that's a very cheap way to go, and I could use that somewhere, I'm sure.

are those the photoflex adapters or the "flashzebra"?

i'm debating which ones to get. the mpex one looks really flimsy compared to the photoflex. any feed back on the quality of the swivel?

They look like flashzebras and it's the one that Curtis suggested.

The question that comes into mind now is, which of the two is better?

Hawk911 - After seeing the idea on the Strobist website, I drilled out the brad and replaced the center pin on the green spring clamp with a 1/4" bolt, washer and nut. I also added a 1/4" bolt to one of the handles which already had a hole in it.

Here's a link to my description of the project.

EDIT: I can't say for the Photoflex, but I know for certain the bracket from flashzebra includes a cold shoe that is equipped with a small thumbscrew which is used to secure your flash in the shoe. Check out the pic of the mount on the picnic table and you will see the thumbscrew on the shoe mount.
