This is my first close up of a live subject, so please humour me as I am quite pleased with it (though I am hoping for better things as I hopefully improve.)

Taken with a Canon 40D and an old Tamron 135mm f/2.8 (it's the only lens my ring flash fits) using 65mm of extension tubes.

Handheld at 1/250 s and f/5.6 in manual mode.

Not bad and blowing a bubble to boot :) - well done.
nearly always better if you can shoot the bug facing you slightly so you can see more of the head.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Have checked the histogram, and the graph did indeed fall short at the right end, so have adjusted that to lighten the image slightly.

Will try and remember the face on tip for future Brian. In this particular case it wasn't possible as it would have put me in a bush which I am sure would have disturbed him/it.

I can see me getting hooked on this close up malarky. Have already been looking at the Canon 100mm Macro lens. I sense the start of a long and sllippery slope! LOL

Very nice with that gear. That's a big bubble too!

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I only bought my first DSLR about 6 weeks ago (just before Christmas) so the results I've been getting so far with the limited equipment I have is very encouraging.

I know there is a lot of room for improvement, but as it hasn't been a complete failure at my first attempt just encourages me to try and do better.
