:)
No single shot taken between 2:1 and 3:1. The springtails are about 1mm max body length and the shot is not cropped.

Oh very nice. Wonder if the snail enjoys it or if it's annoying to them.

Very cool, great detail. Do you commonly see them doing this?

Thanks :)
Not sure - the slug (not a snail) was rearing up which you don't often see them doing so think it was either really enjoying it or getting really annoyed :).

Thanks Gordon :)
The flash is on the RHS of the camera when viewed from the back.

nice shot, how big is that snail i finally saw one of those little red ones but omg it was so small even at 1:1 in the viewfinder. at least 1/10 the size of the regular springtails i see.

:D That is one of the cutest shots I have seen in a while and really made me smile. Reminds me of some dogs which come and lay at your feet to have their stomaches scratched. :D

Jay the slug was about 1" long
Joan - not sure it's possible to get a cute picture of a slug :)

Thanks LTL :)
Joan - very true. Think I found out one of the reasons I dislike these things (apart from them destroying veggies and flowers) - the slime - I was trying to find out what it was actually made from - failed in that but did discover that it has the unique property of being able to absorb a 100 times it's own weight of water. This explains why it is hard to wash off - when you try you just effectively get more and more slime ! The recommended way of removing it is to let it dry and then you can just peel it off (that's if you don't mind walking around covered in slug slime for a while :) )

Yuck!! That sounds awful Brian. They are definitely a pest in the gardens here too but we tend to mostly have the ones with a shell. Your explanation of the water also explains why that one had its tongue out in the post I did on it...it had been raining so was probably absorbing the moisture from the grass. Thanks for this info and how to get rid of slime. Hopefully I will never have one crawling on me. LOL!!
