I'm in a 1/1 apartment and thinking about renting it out as a studio at an hourly rate. The living room is pretty small -only 10 ft wide x 18 long, but the ceiling is rather high -14 ft.

I have 107" savage paper backdrop, 4 AB flash units, and all sorts of softboxes, grids, gels, ect. I would offer as an option to rent out my canon equipment at a flat rate per day. Both studio and equipment would be used under my supervision at all times.

For security I might set up some surveillance cameras and a silent panic alarm system. I own a Glock so I'd also have that on, lock and loaded.

Considering I'll likely be marketing in somewhat shady places like craigslist, would it be safe/wise to start such business?

Renting your home? Sounds like a bad idea to me. Too many potential issues and what if you want privacy? What if the gf wants some "alone time"?

I'd be worried about the zoning issues too. I remember reading somewhere about that you can't disrupt traffic flow in a neighborhood running a commerical business in your home and some other things. I would also get with your apartment management and see what their policies are on it.
