While out on a jaunt looking for secret deer...

The Lynx from the Montreal Biodome. Not so easy - this was ISO 800, 200mm, f/2.8, 1/30, no IS and shooting through a dirty window. I believe that this qualifies as the worst conditions where I've managed a decent shot.

The Wolf Brothers from the Ecomuseum. I lost MANY shots due to the poor posing techniques of these two, who seemed to like to hide behind dead weeds.

PS: Does the horse shot "work" for you? I like it, but I'm not exactly sure why. So if you like it, please let me know why so I can claim that I did it on purpose.

Nice pictures, Scott. You're wolf brothers picture really came out great.

You know, I have the exact same shot of the lynx. We must have snapped our shutters at just about the same time to get such similar pictures, huh? But that still doesn't explain the identical composition we both used. (Twilight song playing...)

Probably because he stopped moving for a total of 3 seconds during the whole time we were there. We probably have a few identical shots of this guy! LOL!

I really do like the Wolf shot. They were pretty adept at having weeds in front of them.

Hindsight tells me that I shouldn't have had the 1.4 on the 400 when I was doing these guys. My shots are way too tight.

Now if you want something to cheer you up..... I spoke with our "guide" this morning and he was up north fighting a hell of a snow storm. Was that a big "Awww" I heard from the crowd.

I think the horse picture works. The black window contrasting with the white horse make that photo work for me. Maybe a tighter crop would give it a little more punch.

I really like that wolf picture. Can I ask which lens you used? It looks nice and crisp. Very nice composition.

Also, what is GCPS-II?

Did you get a good snout shot of the wolf, though? Maybe you can loan Scott one of those "tight" shots so that he can clone a weedless snout on to his so call "ruined" picture.

All I can say is, that must be payback for the frost-bitten toes I got the other day.

Scottes, The Wolf shot is "KILLER!" I like that the closer one is in sharp focus, and His Brother is slightly out, kind of like His presence is known, but from the background.

Now about the Horse, hmm, that shot make me think of "Mr Ed" the talking Horse for some reason.

okay I'll tell you why the horse shot works for me. It might not make sense, but here goes

It's all in the composition and the way your subject is oriented.

It starts from the bottom corner diagonally (Mr. Ed's neck) and the horse is "looking" into the wide open space towards the left of the frame. Another thing that adds to this whole "orientation" is the window...opened towards the left and outside the frame. It might not seem this way, but I think the composition is very well balanced.

There's my phychoanalysis of your pic Scottes :P.

BTW the other ones are great pics.
