i have given up on trying to make money with music photography; well not completely, but realize i need to explore all options. i have a site set up at musicphotog.com (and a mirror at thelightofsound.com), but need something more general.
sabaphotography.com is taken.
i bought sabaphoto.com and lightsaba.com
i am currently designing a site with lightsaba as the name. i'm just not sure that people (read potential clients) will pick up on the play on words.
so i come to the all knowing POTN. what are you thoughts? thanks in advance

lightsaba = light saba = light saber = star wars to me. I could be the only one, but IMHO go with sabaphoto.com.

thanks for the input. and i guess i should have pointed out that it is pronounced say-ba. so you are correct that it is, in part, a star wars reference, but more so taken from the root of the word photography - "writing with light". (hence the other domain, thelightofsound)
my wife sides with you but i just won't let it go. i have both domains and can point them to the same spot, so at this point i guess it is more of what text to use on the webpage.

I don't suggest using .info at all.

lightsaba is the cooler name, but sabaphoto the more professional, go with the latter.

my take is that, if the sabaphotography is taken, then i would not suggest sabaphoto, it's way to easy for people to mix it up or get confused and then venture to the other site and business goes the other way, but there is also the chance that the reverse will happen.
I would add that having you domain name/company name is all about the identity. if you cannot differentiate yourself from the rest, then the chances of people noticing you are lower.
my personal recommendation is go with a totally new name, away from lightsaba, and unless really and absolutely with no further choice, being that the only thing left in to buy is anything but a .com the other .'s are no no, no .info or .biz or .net or . anything...

I voted for none of them, but after second thought ... sabaphoto.com might be a good compromise. The best would be michaelsaba.com, but it's taken. You can also consider sabaphotography.com.

You're not going to become a brand name like google that spreads like wildfire via word of mouth. Accept it.
People will find your site from your business cards/emails.
Pick something that is easy to spell, and not easily mispelled.
Picking "cute"names and etc. for these size businesses is generally pointless and more often counterproductive.

you'll jump on any opportunity to say "told ya" :p

i think this is the answer. i have both domains already, so the will both have the same content on them. the real question is which text/graphic to put on top of the page.

yes, i've been trying to get michaelsaba.com for years. saba is a hard domain to get, as it is the name of a country, governmental news agency, a car..........
anyway, i guess i should have mentioned and included in the poll, that i also have mdsba.com. this was the first domain i ever bought, but i've found that mdsaba is hard to say as people have a hard time hearing the d.
and slava, if you ever need an extra shooter or someone to do some boring pp work, please let me know :)

I know others do very well without it, but SEO keywords might be worth considering with relation to your domain name.
