I have an older EOS A2 film camera
My lenses are an original EF 35-105 non USM and a 70-210 USM
I have a canon speedlight for the A2.

Anyhow I am looking to get into digital. money wise the Rebel digital is a bit of a stretch but not totally out of reach.

I want the camera for general photography as well as shooting some products to post images to e bay and such.

Will the Rebel serve me well enough?

I have seen really wide spread prices on the net, who or where is a godd place (honest/reliable) to purchase from ? I will not purchase gray market.

Without mincnng words, and assuming you have some experience, the 300D is more thne enough. Just get one of those hacks and then you get even more.

What Canon speedlite do you have? Is it an EX series speedlite? Speedlites other than the EX series might not work well or even damage the 300D / Digital Rebel.

By the way, "speedlight" is the Nikon name for flashes. Canon calls them "speedlite". :)

I think you need an EX series for the DSLRs.

The 430EZ will function strictly as a manual flash (you'll have to figure the aperture, as it will always use full power) on the Digital Rebel (300D)

One last question.
Will my older non USM lens function on the body ?

Will my older non USM lens function on the body ?

Yes. Older Canon-compatible third party lenses will often have problem, but any lens that Canon built will be okay.

Yes, your older EF non usm lenses will work on the DRebel

You will have to use the pop up flash until you can afford a new flash, your 430 EZ wont really work on the DRebel. The current flashes that are available from Canon are the 420EX- you have no flash compensation with this model on DRebel and the higher end new 580 EX which has flash compensation. The price difference is pretty significant for the flashes.
