Hey all, I need a 24-70 2.8. but the canon is jsut so expensive. And i really dont want to spend that much money for such a small range. I have looked at the sigma, but it seems the focus is push pull, is that true? I fit is then no way. But other than that i have not found anything that would be a good alternative. I have not read that many good reviews on the tamron. And well tokina just not intrested. But it seems that is my only choice. I had a 24-70 before but had to sell it. Now i need it again. It fits perfectly with what i shoot. So can you all recomend anything to me please. Any help would be greatful. Thank you all.
edit. when reviers have seid the foucos was push pull were they talking about the lens going in an out like atelscoping, or were they talking about the foucis ring, do you still turn it to focus? or do you slide it foward and back?

Many people rate the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 to be virtually as good as the Canon 24-70 :) (except maybe at f/2.8).
Of course it doesn't go as wide...

I think the Tamaron must be pretty good as Minolta have just released a revamped version of it. Also the glass isn't made by Tamaron, its made by Minolta.

But on the sigma, the focus ring, is it like normal lenses wehre you turn it clock wise or counter to focus for manual. or do you slide it forwards and back wards? That is my big question.

Tamron 28-75 produces excellent photos. Try it.

What camera do you want to use it on?

For a Digital Rebel or a 20D, the EF-S 17-85 IS has the range of a 28-135 (in full-frame terms). I have only used it once, but it looks to be very usable as a walkaround lens, even on a heavily overcast day.

Have Fun,

I agree with most, look at the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. The quality is very good and very close to Canon L. I do find it a little slower focusing but at 1/3 the price you cant go wrong

Another possibility is the Sigma 24-60mm f/2.8 EX DG (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=332388&is=REG) . It's a slightly scaled-down version of their 24-70, but produces significantly better images. I just bought one of these as a 'walking around' lens for my 20D, and have been very impressed with it so far. All reviews I've read have been very positive.
