I am working on a book about religious landmarks, do you still need a signed property release from the church or organization? Im thinking i wouldnt, becuase the book would be like an editorial. Or am i way off on this one?

like an editorial. But not really. Maybe educational? I think you're OK. This advice is worth what you paid for it. ;)

I would think that if you're shooting the outside of the churches, then they're public places and you would NOT need a release.

This might change if you're shooting the inside and going into detail of the statues and inner works of the church.

I know we just shot a ton of images at a few of the Mission's around Tuscon and I asked if I needed any thing special - Permission wise, and the director said I was fine to shoot away.

Maybe introduce yourself and ask for permission if you're worried about it coming back to haunt you. You might even be able to work out a deal with some of the churches where they would use some of your images in exchange for permission.

Just a thought?
