Which one do you guys use? Anyone do 50/50? I just bought a few octoboxes and it came with 4 strips, one gold other silver.

So which side of the fence is everyone on? Gold / Silver or 50/50?

It depends on what I want to achieve in the image. If I want a warmer light on the model, compared to the background, I will use gold reflectors on the light(s) / reflector(s) illuminating the model. Generally though I will use silver or white.

Be careful about mixing lights with gold and silver reflectors on the same subject. If you use a softbox with a gold inner reflector and a silver beauty dish to light different sides of the model, the colour balance will look weird (she will appear more tanned on one side than the other). The same goes for using a white / silver main light and using a gold reflector to fill-light the other side, when using a one light setup.

So, if your softbox isn't the only light source on the model, you need to match it to the other one(s), unless using coloured gel(s) for effect of course.

I plan on using 1 650ws strobe with a silver reflector on the other side of the face. Maybe a speed light with some gels to add some color to the background.
