Yesterday and today, the Nascar teams are in so cal for test sessions with the new "Car of Tomorrow" which, as I understand it, has been introduced to make racing more competitive and fair. I'm really not a Nascar guy, so I just don't know the details.

They ran 5 total sessions, with 1 night session that I was able to go to for a while. The track was open to anyone who wanted to watch. Bad part was that it was -very- limited as to where you could go. I have a couple places that I like to shoot the track from, but I couldn't get there. Oh well, watched for about 90 minutes, grabbed a few shots and tried a few different things.

As always comments and constructive crit is encouraged. These are under the lights, ISO 1000, between 1/160 and 1/320, manual exposure. Maybe a bit boring, but something different and maybe a first peek at the new cars.

Great captures!

That Charger one just pops (bokeh of course)

Great panning technique.

All you need to know is that if the 3-4 lead cars are too far ahead of the pack within the last five laps they just throw a yellow (packs them up again) and claim "debris on the track"

no mystery to Leftcar http://www.danpassaro.com/img/v3/p90476478.gif

I like the last one but would like to see the car a bit more central in the frame.

Thanks for the comments. So I guess it's the guys n the back of the pack pushing for a more "fair and competitive" system?!

I like the last one but would like to see the car a bit more central in the frame.

I played with that a bit, but preferred it this way. This is nearly full-frame @300mm. Slight crop to eliminate a hand on the left side that was checking tire pressure. :)

Doubtful. NASCAR has templates, literally. Each car must fit the profile of that template (Ford template, Chevy template, etc), there are VERY specific engine rules, suspension rules, etc, ad infinitum.

NASCAR just trying to come up with new ways to keep the advertisers happy.

Granted there is something to be said when an advertiser can get their product on TV for hours on end, multiples times a year, at a fraction of the price of standard 30sec TV advertising rates and pay YOU instead for it.

That business model would be worth advancing.
