Well got out tonight and used the 85mm f/1.8 lens and decided to go with no flash as I am not 100% sure I can use it.
Here are some of my best only thing done to them was a little sharpen and add watermark.
Shot all in AV mode / wide open.

You're doing great. The DOF is mighty thin at 1.8.

what about the exposure they seem to be a bit underexposed to me but I used AV mode so maybe its just my monitor.

Nice shots, I had been using the 70-200/2.8 ism and liked the results that I was getting but after reading the post about the 85/1.8 I had to have one. Now it rarely comes off of my xti in the gymn. ;)

yea I just got mine and I like it a lot. I can finally focus on shooting good shots rather than wrestle to get my camera to get good exposure.

Look pretty good, IMO. I love the 85 f1.8. Are you shooting RAW?

I've found that I can get away with almost a stop underexposed when it's a RAW file.
I much prefer natural light, hence my purchase of an 85 f1.8. I've been experimenting with some flash ( 480ex) when using my 70-200 f2.8, but I really love it when I can get away with the 85.

I have a 580ex II but cannot use flash in this gym its not allowed
I am just getting used to this lens in this gym I have found that f/1.8 at 1/500th is almost perfect for this gym even up to 1/800 will be ok
