this seems to be a problem common to several Canon cameras. It happened to my S30 and I had to return it to the shop (where it is at the moment). I hope they can find a permanent fix. If you have only just bought your camera I think I would ask for a replacement.

The E18 error code is usually something like the gears behind the lens. It's best if you get it repaired. Can happen sometimes from impact, being carried, etc. Best to take it to be serviced.

I dropped my ixus 300 and knocked the lens while in was out, now when i shut the camera off the lens mech doesnt retract completly into the camera and the lens cover doesn't close. I then get the E18 error message before the camera powers down.

The lens mech will only extent itself again if it is switched on with the mode switch set to Manual or Normal. If its in the preview position, it fails to switch on, i get the E18 message then the camera powers off.

However the camera is still taking perfectly ok pics.

Does anyone know exactly what I've do to the gearing inside?

Has anyone had a simular problem and had it repair, and how much was the repair?

And where can I order spare parts/ref manual from to repair it myself?
