Om are the rhythm section of Sleep, the band notoriously known for submitting the single, 52 minute recording of "Dopesmoker" as their major label debut. after that label refused to release it, they split up, and it was eventually released 3 or 4 years later. the guitarist, matt pike, formed High On Fire, and my shots (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=400544&highlight=high+on+fire) of them are already posted; the drummer and bass player soldiered on as their own thing known as Om. last week i just found out that drummer Chris Hakius left, effectively killing the band. here are some shots of this doom/drone/metal band from the sold-out boston show in early december. gear used was mainly my primes, and fisheye w/ flash.

Pity about the shadow across the guitarists face in #1 as I like the atmosphere of the shot.
3 & 4 are pretty cool too. Looks like hellish lighting conditions to shoot in.

bloody fingers.. eww. but narlus.. i really have to tell you that i look up to you, and the work you are doing. i have been going out more, and shooting more bands. and im not sure im overly hard on myself ( because i havent put them up yet ) or im scared of what everyone else would think.
these are awesome. i love how raw they are. i feel like i was apart of the moment and the music. not just there to shoot it.

thanks all!
shannon, most of the time in this club i'm using either my sigma 30 f/1.4 or canon 50 f/1.4...they just grab a lot more light, though you are prone to highlight blowouts (which can be somewhat recovered in RAW). i've become enamored w/ the fish ,esp when using the flash, as you get so much more view. the drummer shots were taken about 2' away from his kit.

as far as flash.. im scared to use it.. how do you use yours? bounce, mini soft box? diffuser?
the flash scares me the most.

i use the stofen, and the 2' off-camera cord. hold the flash in the left hand, the camera in the other (focusing using the * button can be a bit difficult at times).
shoot M, and figure how much ambient light you want...adjust ISO and shutter speed accordingly. take a shot, and adjust flash output accordingly.

First would have been nice, exept for the shadow on the face.
Last I'd bin because of the guitar blocking the face. Or just crop out the fingers ;)
Some nice shots, some I'd crop closer... But that's me :p
