I honestly hadnt hurd of shutters falling apart until i got into the digital world.

I have an AE-1 that is a heck of a lot older then my 1D yet my 1D will most likely die before my AE-1.

I suspect that's because in general, people bang off a hell of a lot more shots with digital.

What Cadwell said. take for instance with film. I used to take a roll or maybe two to the zoo with me to take some pics. I most likely would not need the second roll. Now with digital, a 1GB CF card and no processing costs. I'll usuall shoot 'till the card is full. :D

I did take that into consideration but i'm just wondering if old cameras have tihs issue too.

I would imagine so. They're mechanical components so they will wear. I just reckon that with film, people never used to shoot as much so they didn't bang up against the MTBFs so often.

Yes. From the F-1 writeup (http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/f_camera.html) at the Canon Camera MuseumThe camera was built to endure 100,000 picture-taking cycles, temperatures ranging from -30 C to 60 C, and 90% humidity. Being a highly durable and reliable camera, the F-1 gained many followers including pros. Except for a one-time revision, the camera was manufactured and sold for ten years.

Yes. Anything mechanical will wear out and eventually break. :( I'm sure most older consumer SLR's never came close to the number of shutter activations that todays DSLR's have. Unless of course you were a pro shooting for SI or had some other way of of getting you film and processing done for free or at least heavily discounted. :D

I had the shutter on my A-1 replaced last year. They all eventually bite the dust.
