View Full Version : Thank you

Since posting my first website in 1998 -- www.facethewall.com -- I have been overwhelmed in search engines by Don Ellis, the famed jazz trumpeter who died in 1978. When I first typed our name in, I found myself in about 531st position behind 530 references to The Other Don. Over the years, however, I rose -- me being active and him not.
A few days ago, someone asked me in a thread if I was the jazz guy (I take it they weren't close) and before I broke the news to him, I typed our name in Google again. I am now #1 -- proving that to be on top, all you have to do is outlive the competition.
Humor aside, the reason I've popped to the surface is because people visit the website, so this is a thank-you note. I first discovered Pekka's G1 gallery in 2001 when I purchased my own G1 and since then I've been an irregular poster to these forums. Because I don't advertise my website, I can safely assume that many of the members here have helped make Kleptography popular. So, thank you...

As many of you know, I am a saint, so this message should not be construed as boasting or dancing on anyone's grave. :)
It really is a thank-you message and not intended to elicit pats on the back. You've already done that with your mouse.
Cheers,
Don
Here's The Other Don, in case you were wondering whether we're all good-looking...

Congrats on making it to No1, Its not something many people can claim :)
Prior to Bertram naming a boat the Moppie I was also on page 1 for a little while, but never made the number one spot, Ill get there one day. :)
And I love the "halo" photo! Very cool, I hope you add it to your website, prehaps an "Im number 1" page is needed 8)

Hi Moppie,
You'll be pleased to know I was sainted in New Zealand... Clark's Beach, specifically.
Here's to you making it to #1 (for me, it means that friends from the past can find me a little easier -- not that I have friends bright enough to use Google for that purpose). :-)

Hi Marie,
Sorry to reply so late... I've been a little busy. It was nice of you to take a look at the Darjeeling photos. It was a very memorable trip.
I think my two favorite photos are the last two on this page -- http://www.facethewall.com/dj-farend.html
Looking over some of the photos you mentioned, I think I should reprocess some of them with what I know now. :? They were taken (and processed) eight years ago.
Cheers,
Don

"Early morning in Darjeeling. I turned a corner and looked up to this second-story window. It was five degrees the night before and the window was missing a pane. As the family retired, I can picture Teddy being plucked from the warmth of his bed and put to work as a window plug. With its textures, colors, plants, the white bag and the blanket airing in the broken window frame, this window has a painted canvas quality to it and has changed the way I look at all windows. This was one of life's serendipitous encounters. An hour later when I walked by it was gone. "

it's a lovely story.
very nice that you 'saw' it 'happening' at all Don
and they really are like paintings ..almost all of them
but yes , I agree those two especially
I said 'flaws' in earlier post and was a bit worried later that that was the wrong word I used to mean what I meant
and that you would wonder etc etc etc

fantastic beautiful colouring and atmosphere in them
as Santha was alive when you visited Penang (that time)was she behind in your apartment in Hong Kong or was she living here still and you both were visiting her and the family living in Penang
I won't put question marks so as it's just left open
and no worries
thanks for saying which you like best too

Hi Marie,
Yes, she was still there... she came to Hong Kong in 1999. Before then Leela was visiting everything three months or so to make sure she was all right. It wasn't a perfect arrangement but Santha was very insistent on her independence right up until she finally agreed to come live with us. We coaxed her to Hong Kong in 1995 and managed to keep her with us for a year before she insisted on returning.
Take care... I'm off to bed.
