I love your clean black and white style. The photographs appeal from the top to bottom. Meaning the scene is wonderfully composed.

You have a great urban eye. I enjoyed your set, congrats :)

His reality has nothing to do with the ad at the bus stop. It has more do do with being hit by the bus. Very nicely captured.

What lens do you guys all use for your urban shots?

TheHoff
4th of February 2008 (Mon), 03:43
Cheers all. right now I'm using 16-35II, 100/2.8, and 200/2.8. I'm liking the reach of the primes as they don't draw attention like the white zooms. I do wish Canon had made the f/4 200 zooms in black.

eddiebrown
4th of February 2008 (Mon), 04:00
17-40 mostly and sometimes the 85 1.8 for me . the 70-200 2.8 attracts too much attention like hoff said .

interesting. Never thought of white primes like that. But I do feel the same. It is not the most discrete lens being white.

that is my favorite piece of art work in vancouver!

And a very well photographed one, for sure. The guy in my shot (a city worker) was interested in what I was shooting (with the monopod attached) and he stuck around to talk about how odd the buildings look. He had some personality in his face I think.

Here's a B&W night shot.

Jason- I LOVE the pic of the guy flippin you off, but the last two you posted...are awesome.

I really like the window washer! There are so many things that I continue to see in that picture the more I look at it. There is a building here that has an entrance very similar to that and I'm almost certain it is number 214...probably why that stuck out to me so much.

Cool thread. I would start one in Nacogdoches but I think I'd be the only poster!!

Perryge, I love the 214 building shot!!!

Jason! I Totally love the one of the guy flippin you off. that one is worth more then a thousand words LOL. but I have to say that my favorite of all would be the guy with the pigeons! that is so awesome! fom the maple leaf on the hat.. to his expression. it is clear that this is not the first time that these birds have sat on his lap. I totally love that shot. I have not tried my hand at any street photography yet. but you all inspire me.

We have hydrogern and hybrid buses. The older Vancvouer electric buses (that run on overhead cables) has some "experience" and are kept spotless inside and out on the whole. The sight of dentage was something I had to capture before it was rubbed out.

here is a few of my shots... I've taken a long break from photography only taking the odd shot here and there. These shots with the exception of the last one was created with my Canon A1.. that's right:D please leave feedback as I am open. The one with my fiance and my dog has a blueish tint that I didn't adjust out when I took the shot. The first 2 are used with a 28mm lens by canon and oddly enough my first shots ever with it. Just noticed it's street shots.. hope you all don't mind

Woah, dedicated photos! That's never happened before . That sky is awesome Alex, but I have a question - is that light falloff completely natural with the 5D + 16-35 combo?

Here you go Perry. I had to walk at least six blocks to the beach so I hope you like it. I really have to get an ND filter, so much water around here.

Oh man, I'm so jealous that your beach is not covered in snow. Unlike here in Toronto. Truly a perfect candidate shot for slapping an ND filter on, Rob :D.

Hmm There is some falloff but I think most of that is an illusion of the light in that image. The center is very bright and buildings are shadowing the left side of the frame as the sun sets behind them. Looking at the DNG, there is not so much apparent fall off before post and the added contrast.
