For anyone interested I'd note that Fred Miranda switched servers today and the speed is rather breathtaking. Those of you who gave up on the site because of the painfully slow loading time will be pleasantly surprised. I know there are reasons for many to prefer this site and I've no interest in disputing folks preferences, but at least the competitor is doing his best to offer users a better experience. Those interested in checking FMs Buy and Sell board, or chatting with Nikon users can now do so without interminable delays.

Yup, seems faster but they have seemingly 'lost' my buy and sell posting entitlement so i can't add any adverts now even tho I paid the annual subscription :-(

I didn't realise there was a competition running?

You might wish to contact Fred. I've little doubt he will re-instate your privileges if an error has been made. He's been making great effort to respond to user's concerns. I've been too cheap to pay for a Buy and Sell membership. Of course, I seem much more inclined to buy gear than sell it and I don't need a membership to do that...

Poor choice of words perhaps... I know there are plenty of folks who enjoy hanging out at both boards. My comment was intended for those who may have given up on FM in the past because of the sluggish servers, a problem that I've never experienced here.

Its a cost thing, I guess its cheaper to set up a call centre in Finland than I thought.

Of course out sourcing to a competitor is not always wise.........:lol:

Might as well be, Pekka - apparently it's already the new home of the Nikon Fan Club..!

Never even heard of that site before. Went to check it out and incredibly slow. :(

Which is quite an improvement over the abysmally slow and virtually unusable speed it was at before the upgrade. ;)

The word you were looking for was "glacially slow" T.D,. the Abyss is actually a fast sprinter by comparison.

Now if he'd just get a better program to run his board. And get rid of the people that make it a dp jr.

Remarkable response from the homers posting on POTN. I raised this subject simply because of the discussion quite some time ago when FM members were migrating to this board in hoards because of their frustration with the fee being charged to list items on the Buy and Sell board at FM. In addition to complaints over the new fee arrangement were those related to the slowness of the servers. Honestly, I think there is room on the internet for more than one website devoted to photography. Congratulations to the folks who've concluded that all their needs are met by this board. I guess the sun doesn't rise and fall for me on these pages and I'll be doomed to wander the web looking for interesting conversations about photography, as well as opportunities to buy and sell gear. POTN remains a valued bookmark in my browser, but... FM has much that I enjoy. And, contrary to naysayers above, it is fast. To each, his own. :D

I dunno, FM has always been fast for me. In the past occasionally it would be ultra slow, but this was on rare occasions.
