First sports outing for the 1D3, AF is pretty impressive. Ambient light in the arena sucked...all photos ran thru noise ninja for noise reduction.

These are excellent shots. Not much noise while using the high ISO too. That's awesome.

I'm really impressed with the noise performance. At least 90% of the rinks my son plays in have horrible lighting. I know of at least 3 that it is not worthwhile to even take my camera.

Did Noise Ninja really denoise your shots or is the camera really that good?

thanks

David, these photos aren't thru glass, does that mean they suck now?:-)

Joe, the ISO 6400 photos only looked bad when I zoomed in on the shadows/midtones. I was exposing for the ice, placing it's spike at the far right edge of the histogram and then I usually bumped it +.20 in PP.

Noise Ninja DID help with noise in the shadows especially the ISO 6400 shots, which I was hesitant to use, but excited to test @ the same time. PS-I was using the 1D3 ISO 6400 noise profile in NN.

Thanks for the info. This site is really helping me to get better quality photos at my son's games. Are you shooting M or Tv?

I just booked travel to go to Anaheim for the US Hockey regionals in early March and I only 2 more weekend series of games to hone my skills. Hope we don't spend the last day of the tournment at Disneyland ;)
