SanDisk Ultra II 512mg cards for.......

$59 at Best Buy after $15 rebate. I just picked up two. At THIS price, they were almost the same price as the regular SanDisk 512's. :shock:
Just thought I'd post a "Heads UP" for those of you that need more memory. :wink:

Hello, a Newbie here.

I have had a Rebel 2000 for a few years now, which I love.
However, our family is looking for a digital camera so we can post pictures on the internet.
I am considering an A95 (looks like you guys approve), and so I have a few questions about memory.
1. I would probably be looking at a 512MB card.
2. What is the best brand (if any) of cards?
3. Does getting a high-speed card affect image quality?

Yep prices drop on things like storage quite quickly, pretty much anything that has to do with computing depreciates at a scary rate. Remember the days that a 2x cd burner was $500? I can get an HP one for $30 now.

So, regarding #3, the only difference is the price and the ability to save an image to disk quickly?

Also, I would be looking at something like a SanDisk Ultra II CompactFlash?

I needed shock recovery after I bought a San Disk ultra11 256 mb card at a main railway station in Rome catching the train to the airport for Sicily and thinking to myself that there would not be much opportunity to get a memory card at the airport.

a case of now or never :?

I already had 5 other types of card but knew I would need more memory for later.

as pressure to 'hurry up' was on me while in the foto shop at the railway station (it had been so hard to find it and took up precious time)
I thought and wondered about the price asked... which was 120 euro's but 'high speed' etc etc was mentioned and I really had not any time to dither about... do I get it now or hope I get one later :?

I took it , still trying to add up in my head what had the other cards cost me ? and was this good value or not (quality wise etc)
none of the other cards were as high as 256mb..126 was the highest

then on to the airport and quickly going past a 'shop' there
(not in the 'duty free') I ran in and asked what price their identical card

they had them for 65 and 85 euro's

the 85 euro card was the same :shock:

I bought one

I felt the butterflies.... just thinking of the other
but tried to forget what I had just paid
(in the railway station)

then , when I get home I see all the memory cards (256) in a city camera shop reduced to forty euro's.

talk about getting sick

to cap it all : I had seven memory cards
and forgot the recharger for the camera

which is essential

even though I had two batteries.
I badly needed the recharger.

but I got pictures
thank goodness :lol:

just didn't like missing something (recharger) which could have been avoided.

and no shops over there (that I could get to anyway) had one like it :(

so there now Bruce............. you are allowed to feel wonderful :lol:

For a compact digital camera like the PowerShot A95, it is almost useless to buy a fast CF card like a SanDisk Ultra II. The speed is only useful when you're doing action photography and you shoot a lot of frames quickly. You need a digital SLR like the Digital Rebel or 20D to do that. Your A95 most likely doesn't write images faster if you get a fast CF card. So, just get a standard speed flash card for your A95.

The only advantage would be if you buy a separate card reader (with USB 2.0 or FireWire interface) - downloading images from the CF card to the computer through the card reader would be faster.

I meant to say earlier that I noticed a slowness when shooting with the san disk ultra11 card (using a g2 camera)
and I wondered about it.
seems to be the problem you mention here :?

looks like I'll have to upgrade the camera to match the card
