Here are a few pics from my day at the park. Very little editing involved. I read the forum rules of 3 pic max unless others request more...so if you want to see more, just ask :-)

Feel free to post some of yours from your sx100is. I'd love to check out the variety!

This is the inside of an oak tree that was cut down some time ago. I just loved it's beauty.

This is around 3:30pm (after wolf camera!)

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff51/thebeadkeeper/Photography/OakintheSun.jpg

and this was my very first shot of the day (yummy!) I did do editing on it with the B&W and contrast.

Hope you like! Let me see yours. dd

This is a photo i took yesterday afternoon right before the tornados hit Memphis. The cloud coverage was unreal. These photos are unedited.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff51/thebeadkeeper/Photography/IMG_0077.jpg

This is a photo of the darkness that came over us at about 5pm. (and it got much darker!)

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff51/thebeadkeeper/Photography/IMG_0091.jpg

And this pic was taken right after that one during a lighting strike that filled the sky up like it was the middle of the afternoon.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff51/thebeadkeeper/Photography/IMG_0092.jpg

This was quite an intense storm system that came through the midsouth. "We" were not hit by a tornado near our home, but the Memphis area got it's share of damage and devastation. The death toll for Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky right now is at 48. Please keep these families in your prayers. Thank you. Dawn

I am amazed how people can sustain that kind of horrible experience. I have been in two major earthquakes and I tell you I can't be near an area that is prone to earthquakes.....

Count your blessings !

I know, right. I lived in Illionis as a child and we had horrible tornados, but we had basements. One time, I stood at our bay window and literally watched a twister wind it's way down our street until my mom yanked me into the basement. We were not touched, but the house RIGHT next door had the entire roof peeled off as if by a can opener. I was astonished by the force of nature. Since then I have taken tornados very seriously.

Lived in Cali for 3 years, but never had any quakes, thankfully!

This is what I can't understand, why? why? the building codes have not adapted to tornadoes in that area.

It has been proven that houses that are built have of the house underground, has a larger survival rate, or at least build the house against a mound of man made hill. Instead, they build very fragile houses, and the consequences are devastating

Thanks for posting some Nice Scapes......

I can't stop myself to ask a question about this camera,

I love to shoot in TV, AV mode in SLR, So what I want to know badly:

Is there any option to move the Center Auto focus frame to any side of the LCD, So user can keep their subject to any side of the frame with perfectly focused ?

& this will probably in TV & AV mode.....

Hope I clearly explained......Waitin for your response.
Thanks in Advnace.

No way to select anything but the center focus point(or face recog). You need to focus, and recompose to off-center your subject.

This is three images stitched in CS3, then cropped a bit for composition. I'm pretty happy with the SX for a pocketable ultra-zoom.

I am a Canon user have several PS and 3 high end Dig SLR. And I can tell you that this camera is nowhere near the previous model, yes it has a larger LCD, and 10x zoom so what.

The meter reader sucks, the menu wheel is very sensitive it keeps moving the setting at the slightest touch

The only reason (sorry) I bought it was because the zoom since I went on a trip and didn't want to take my expensive SLR. My first choice was G9 but too darn expensive the market is driving its price above MSRP

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, so those negatives that I am reading IMHO a matter of mismatched expectations.

still the SX100IS is a good camera for what it does.....

if I need higher (or better...) quality - color, sharpness, IQ etc etc.... I will go for a 5D or a 40D and use with L lenses. which explains the existence of both series

I think so many folks expect way too much from a camera that is selling for such a small amount of money. Though I don't own an sx100, I have sure seen some beautiful photos that were made with them. Check message #12!

It takes courage to be humble on knowing what is the realistic expectation and even more courage to admit mis-expectation.

My personal experience has been reasonably positive, and still learning more on working it's function.

Here is a pic I took with my sx100is, I am a newbie so please feel free to critique it, give advice or whatever I could have done different. I also just got Photoshop Elements 6 and am learning to use that too. I think the only change I made to this photo was to sharpen it a little.

Here is another I took. This pic was taken out of a car window while driving 65 MPH. This one I edited with Elements 6. There were power lines right through the center of the pic, I edited out (I am not sure if I did a good job with this or not, I can still tell where they were). I changed the hues a bit - a little more purple, but the original really did have purple. Any suggestions welcomed, besides stopping the car & getting out (we were on the turnpike and couldn't stop).

Here are a couple I got at the butterfly garden at the University of Florida.

Took them a day after buying my new camera, so far I love this camera. I wish I could put the full size images on here, details are so much better on those.

& one portable handheld light...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Snoopy88/IMG_3938.jpg

Here is my setup...

2X clip on table lamp with swivel arms, using 45W energy saving Daylight Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs .

1x 75W energy saving Daylight Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb with downlight holder (as the portable light which I am holding)
which brings me to the point - perhaps I should have used the SX100IS for the job instead of the 300D....

Ha ha I like how this temporarily became a food thread! ;)
I do like this camera - even though mine will be sent back and I'll have to probably wait another month until I get the replacement, grr, but I feel like the IQ isn't that much superior to my SD1000 . . . sure it feels more substantial, but I was hoping it would take somewhat noticeably better pictures than the SD1000. Anyway, I'm sure I'll fall in love with it in no time!

More candids (I rarely actually purposefully go out and take pictures other than at parties/bars - which is something I need to change!) from moi -
1st is my friend drinking a blueberry mojito - sooooo good!
And the 2nd is at a lil get-together/party -slow sync flash was on and whoever took the picture was clearly not sober.

Love the pictures - keep them coming for when I'm bored in class! ;)

Those shots were great I guess you used Macro right? It makes me wonder how you were able to capture those images so sharp w/o a tripod since I guess you weren't riding a bike with a tripod.

No tripod and the wind was blowing too, just handheld. Some of them I had the ISO at 200 to get the SS up. On the 'stickery' looking thing with tiny blue flowers (chia), I put the camera against the stalk that was aboe the bloom which held it still relative to the camera.

Apparently the IS did it's job fairly well. Also take a few extra shots as you never know when you could get a 'softie' for a host of reasons. Good sunlight always helps too.

I was mostly shooting in Av with Macro focusing. The one thing that was kind of annoying was that if I went into 'viewing' mode to see if I had got a decent shot, I had to reset it into Macro focusing each time I went to shoot again.

I don't know if there is a way to lock this 'feature' out, I guess I'll have to read the manual... ;)

subimatt.... go for the s5. If I could do it all over again, I would have gotten the s5. There are so many differences.

What differences? Both use the same sensor and processor. The lenses are different, but the IQ is virtually identical according to this comparator, except that the SX100 does slightly better at ISO 1600.
http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

There are a few differences:
S5 has a hot shoe, EVF, 12X zoom,
Sx100 is less expensive and more portable

But if you aren't happy with the SX100's performance, I don't think an S5 will do anything for you.

This was the feature that sweeps me off my feet. Yeah, I had a few uncle when seeing my pictures, wanted to try out the SX100. Subject my baby to a Ritcher scale 10 shake, take a photo, then say that the IS doesn't work.

I turn around and say - nothing at this pricepoint or the canon consumer family will produce a sharp shot with such a shake.

(for some reasons, my full MP shots were reduced to 800x600 in Photobucket)

Lensmen - there were two fairly noticeable dust specks underneath the LCD glass and it also had a small but deep scratch on the glass. I was pretty bummed/upset because it certainly looked new from the packaging integrity, but I sent it in for an exchange because I want my new stuff to LOOK NEW!
