I've updated to the latest firmware & yet when on a shoot this afternoon I had the camera die on me showing error 99? I was shooting RAW & had a canon 17-40L on all the time. I had to remove the battery for a few seconds to get it back to life.

Error 99 is usually a random error; if it's only happened the once, I wouldn't worry about it.
If your PC crashes unexpectedly, do you fret that it might be broken? Or do you simply reboot and carry on? Unless the crash is repeated frequently, you probably write it off as "one of those things". In my experience, error 99 is like that; I will ignore them unless they occur repeatedly. :)

Good advice. Windows Me made us all very patient with out computers. Why can't we be the same way with our cameras?

We should all be thankful that Microsoft is not involved with the firmware for these cameras. Or are they? I heard that the D-Rebel is running an older version of DOS as it's operating system. Maybe the 20D is running a trimmed down version of Windows ME

...sliding open the CF Card door and then closing it again.
I had an Error 99 last week and opened and closed the CF Card door quickly and was back shooting again 5 seconds. Didn't even have to worry about the battery. It might work for others if they get an error.

I've had the Error 99 on my MarkII. Ironically I've only had that error with new CF cards. Really, I think that CF cards need to be broken in. It sounds wierd, but I've never had error 99 on a card I've used a lot. In all, I've had the error 4 times now.

You think that would be bad? I've just heard that the Royal Navy here in the UK are going to use Windows as the operating system on the battle computers on their newest destroyers!
