Tooling around with some macro shots. A little C/C would be great.

The details:
Ranitomeya imitator (Mimic Poison Dart Frog)
Canon XTi
Shutterspeed 1/60
F5.6
ISO 400
300 mm

I've done a close crop to draw focus on the subject.

Thanks for looking!

Everything looks OOF to me?

Yeah, it is OOF....some invariable camera shake as I was trying to capture this with hand-holding the camera.

I would attempt a retake...when available;)

Yeah have to agree, focus failure makes this a non keeper. Like the colours though

I'm going to have to attempt a retake for sure.....hopefully when this little guy is facing the camera :)

Focus on the eyes and stop down...

I think this is good advice. The picture doesn't look too out-of-focus due to shake to me (but it's late here), it looks more like the backside was in focus and the depth of field was tiny. How'd you manage a macro shot at 300mm... was that a pretty big frog or did you use a macro extender? Overall, nice colour and interest value.

Cheers,

Tony

Personally, when I take shots of frogs I like to make sure I have a large DOF so that I can get the entire frog in focus. I'd make the focus point the eye and allow the rest of the body to be a little soft. Hope that helps :)

Quite the opposite, this frog is only about 18mm in total length. I was using the macro function on the Sigma lens.

Yeah - I forgot about those Sigmas with the 200-300mm macro function until after I'd logged off and gone to bed. Your photo's another good argument for getting one :-). Got too much gear already though... the weight and bulk's really put a dampener on my appetite for further acquisitions. Anyway, thanks for sharing the shot. Cheers, Tony
