will a canon 70-200 f/4L fit in a tamrac adventure 7 backpack bag?
It will be a very tight fit, but I'd say it will fit. Just don't put anything heavy in the top section, as the lens will make a bulge into that part. I can post a pic when I get home tonight in about 4 hours.

thanks for the pic.
so it will fit, with the quite substantial stretch it looks like. i am wondering if in any way it would fit better with rearranging the inner velcro pads in a different combination and have the 70-200 lay across the bottom portion of the bag in the other direction.?

It definitely works, I used that combo for quite a while. You just have to put the hood elsewhere...

Have you considered the Adventure 9? Much bigger backpack for sure, but the 70-200 will fit no problem.

i will consider the adventure 9 backpack. i have only had the adventure 7 now for a month. so far i am very pleased with the quality of the pack and would definitely stay with a tamrac.

I have the Adventure 9 and it's huge. I have a 17 inch laptop so I required on that big, but to put a lot of gear also, it's heavy, yet, for flying, it's the only way. I skip the 7, but it's a good bag.

I have the Adventure 9 as well. The top compartment is also useful and I store my hoods and other bits & pieces in there. As Suzie says, it is huge compared to the Adventure 7, but it works for me.
I looked at the Adventure 7 but thought the bottom compartment was a bit small.

I got the 9 because I have the 70-200 2.8 IS, and that thing is huge. But the bigger bag, the heavier. If you are thinking sling bags, the Velocity 9 fits my 40D with 70-200 2.8 IS connected and 2 lenses and 1 flash. That bag is my most used for that set up.
