Hey there.

Does anyone know any secrets that can help clean-up the appearance of noise in shots taken at 800iso? I am hoping there is something in photoshop that can ease it up a bit. Some of the shots are ok, but some need work.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There are many noise reduction apps out there, but Noise Ninja is highly regarded. Also, there is a beta of the new NN plug-in available for PS available on the Picture Code site.

Works beautifully!

I use the Noise Ninja - the results are outstanding ! For example - almost all the shots in the following gallery were shot with 10D at ISO 1600, and after Noise Ninja processing there was very little amount of noise left :

Highly recommended !

Neat Image, Noise Ninja and their knock offs all use similar noise reduction techniques. The interfaces and controls are different. The underlying mathematical routines require a lot of CPU horsepower - so speed is always a consideration. Get to know one well and use it wisely. You'll be happy.

Another excellent program is neat image (http://neatimage.com/). Highly recommended.

I second or third or whatever neatimage. I downloaded the freeware and it made me about $300.00 in two days. So I bought it as a plug in to PS7.

you don't have to use any of those program to clean up noise if you have photoshop already.

1. convert image to "lab colour"
2. check "a" channel and "b" channel, see which one has more noise
3. apply "gaussian blur" to either "a" or "b", adjust slider until image looks smooth
4. apply same amount of blur to the other channel(a or b)
5. back to RGB mode

I use Noise Ninja with good results, but you may also want to check out Noiseware. The community edtion is free and has very good output.

I use Noiseware, and I highly recommend it. I've taken a few ISO 3200 shots on my 20D and used it for noise reduction and I am VERY pleased with the results.
