sup.

this isnt really my first time portrait attempts, but it is the first time i posted up some of the portraits i took... simply because my old ones suck :) please comment and criticize on them since i have LOTS to learn on portrait taking. thanks guys!~

1 and 5 do it for me. I normally dont like sepia treatments, but in the case of the shot of your Grandfather, I think that it works very well. The lines, texture and shadows on his face suit the treatment.

On 5, I like the color of the boat and the the sense of "watching the wonder". If only her face was leaned just a little more this way.

The other shots appear to be nothing more than snapshots to me.

The first two look good! Number five I have to ask "what the.." interesting, but not sure if I like it.

but can u tell me what about the pics that u didnt like? ie. composition, too flat, no point of interesting. im desperatly trying to improve my portrait shooting abilities.

I like 4 and 6. I really like 6, the background bothers me in 4. If this is your first posting...Im looking forward to your next. Watch the specular highlight in the black and whites...

I like 1 and 6.

1. particularly for the look it gives.

6. I like the kind of "off in space" look kids get.

The rest, as some one else pointed out, seem to be snap shots with heavy cropping of the background. Kids are difficult to shoot at the best of times, but catching them when they are at play is the best, I just think you need to get more of a sense of what your nephew is doing, rather than zoom in on his face. Maybe B&W would change the feel of 2-5, particularly on #4.
