I am an inexperienced hobbyist photographer who is just now getting comfortable with bouncing the flash.

A friend of mine has asked me to take some pictures at the law office where he works for use on their website. Nothing earth-shattering. Just a group photo, some individual shots, maybe an external pic of the place.

All I have is my XTI (17-85 IS lens being used), the 430EX, a Stofen diffuser, and the LumiQuest OmniBounce. No flash bracket-- the flash would be mounted in the hotshoe.

Do I really need a strobe and stuff for the interior shots or will bounced flash be sufficient. I asked him and he told me the ceilings in the office aren't very high and they are white.

P.S. -->

Later this year I plan on getting more serious about the hobby and getting some strobes+umbrellas. But right now I am comfortable learning the basics with my flash.

When you bounce your flash up to the ceiling ...you don't need the flash bracket , just rotate the head of the flash up you'll be fine .

You should be Ok if the ceiling not too high ...bounce it to the ceiling , but set your flash manual to 1/1 you will have a lot of power .

Thank you for the reply, QX56. Setting the flash at full power might be overkill but I won't know how much I'll need until I get there and take test shots.

I use an 430ex as well. If the ceiling height is not too high. I would leave it in Ettl mode, bounce it and use +2/3 to 1 stop of Flash exposure compensation (may need to be higher for the ceiling height). I would only use the flash in manual if I have either 1) a flash meter or 2) manually calculated the GN, aperture, distance for the given exposure (that's another ballgame in itself with the 430ex).
