View Full Version : New Site: How's It Looking/How's My Pricing?

So I've registered a new domain, and I'm working on a new site. I've got the design more or less done, I think, and now I've just gotta get all the content written/added. What do y'all think? (http://72.187.176.136/~bieber/photo/) Also, the only complete page as of this post is pricing: does that look pretty reasonable to the pros around here?

My 4x6's are 5x that for commissioned work and 10x that for non-commissioned work. The wording doesn't sound very professional either, but I'm not going to pick it apart line by line. The index page shouldn't be your About Me page. It should be something of a splash page with some images to wow the visitor to make them want to go to other pages to learn more.

Yeah, at those price points you are going to have people order a 4x6 of every print and then they will enlarge them. Trust me. I don't sell anything below a 5x7, and I charge almost as much for it as I do an 8x10.

Duly noted on the smaller print prices: I'll be sure to raise them next time I'm editing the site. And cdi, with all due respect, splash pages do absolutely nothing but irritate your visitors: that's a principle of web development, not just my opinion. I will, of course, be loading up the index page with images throughout

I didn't say splash page, I said "something of a splash page" and went on to describe it. They're not the same thing. In other words, if I don't see images I like right off the bat, I'm not gonna care about your bio.

Sir,

From the perspective of a prospective customer with knowledge of photography but not a pro, your site needs images on the index page and a more interesting "about" description.

And, frankly, your pricing page verbiage is less than professional sounding. It sounds like the old "no parking except during full moons and on alternate Palm Sundays riff. "

It'll be changed shortly, no worries. I'd previously made it ungainly large to deal with some layout issues that I've fixed now, so I'll be rewriting it tonight. As for the "about" page and such, well, I already said that pricing was the only completed page...

One other thing...the 'Portfolio' link leads to a language that I am not familiar with. Might want to make some changes...

lol, that's Lorem Ipsum: it's a standard dummy text that people throw into type and/or web layouts just to test it. You could read it if you knew Latin, I think it's some random quote from an old Roman volume or something...

Well, I'd planned on finishing the whole thing tonight, but then I realized that I'd pretty much forgotten PHP's syntax (you know it's bad when it takes you some googling to realize that PHP requires every variable prefixed with a '$'). So, anyways, I've updated the pricing (good thing I found out just how bad I was low-balling), do things look more in line now? Hopefully in the next few days I'll be able to cook myself up a nice little gallery system, and get the copy written for the index page.

Also, any comments on the layout itself? No one seems to hate it enough to say anything about it, so I'm hoping not too bad?
