I have my webpage thru yahoo business and I am trying to install ee, but I am getting an error when installing: Unable to connect to the photo database server at this time
PLEASE PRESS REFRESH ON YOUR BROWSER TO TRY AGAIN.

Why do you get this error? Maybe because:

The database server has not been activated for you domain
your username/password is wrong.
The database server in offline for some reason.

If you get this error, contact your server administrator and check if MySQL is indeed running on your server. This error message can also mean that the MySQL server is overloaded - can easily happen in shared hosting where 250 sites fight for one CPU and same system resources.

I believe my error is with my database, and I thought I had added a new DB (I am also running phpbb2) properly. I am not sure what to put for tables when I create this new DB.

OK I figured it out, but now I am trying to edit this thing and get rid of all of the "original owner" settings. Just doesn't seem to be working.

You don't have to create tables for EE.

There is a PHP script that goes through and creates them (also deletes any existing tables as well in case you are doing a wipe re-install).

Also I don't understand what you mean by "original owner" setting. Some detail might help

I got the DB issue figured out, I had forgotten the secrets to DB on my site.

When I say 'original owner". I get all of Pekka's settings, pictures lights, cameras, flashes, lenses, locations, etc. I have spent all weekend and can't figure out how to get my exhibit published. I am no script genius but I thought I could do basic click here and click there. But it just isn't working.

DOH!
Well I was going to work on this today since I am off. Started looking at the Forums and found out that even though I just downloaded last week, there is a different version. So it looks like this will resolve all my frustrations. I didn't realize there was a newer version.

Am I true in my assumptopn that if I don't pass the FTP tests I can't use this Engine? Apparently I don't have FTP to my PHP, although I do have FTP as part of my site.

You can use EE without the ftp portion.

You just have to manually add to the EE database.

This is written out in one of the sticky notes at the top of this list.

So you just upload to the directories you want and then follow the directions.

Why is this so difficult. I can't figure this out. I was able to install PHPBB2 with ease and change styles and add smilies and avtars, but this is very difficult. The "instructions" are not detailed enough. I have sent an email to Yahoo and asked about php ftp module, but in the mean time, how the heck do I do things manually? I uploaded 2 pictures into a thums folder and a regular folder, but when I go to look for them at the utilities page, but it said no pictures found. HELP

Have you followed the instructions at
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=29266
to the letter? Particularly the stuff under
Clean install of EE 1.5 RC 4?

It's true the documentation is not great, and a lot depends on your server setup: if it's too far removed from the defaults that EE expects, there's precious little documentation to explain what to do.

Yeah I think I have it, it isn't working the way I would like it to, but I think that is due to the fact that I don't have the PHP FTP module, so I have to do all resizing and such by hand.

I will study this a bit more and play around some more.
I am just surprised by the lack of help.

But I guess Pekka is away.
