I am looking at the Dell 2007WFP to replace my old monitor. It is listed as a S-IPS panel. I would like to know if any of the members have this monitor and what they think about it. Thanks for the help.

Regards,

Mitch

I use one but primarily as my pallets screen. I have a 2005WFP that I use as my main editing screen. I'm very happy with the 2005 and, in terms of image quality, the 2007WFP is very similar to it.

Thanks for the help,

I would really like to get a 22-23 in. monitor but all the ones in my price range are Tn panels.

Mitch

I got a 2407WFP-HC a while ago, as I wanted it to last for a while.
My logic was while I was spending a lot of money on a monitor, it was sensible to spend a little bit more on a monitor that was capable of displaying a 1080p signal, so I don't have to upgrade my monitor to watch HD content without scaling.
There are currently no 22" units that manage 1920x1080. The 2407's res is actually 1920x1200, so it's HD plus a bit. IIRC, it's not a TN film panel.
I've been very pleased with it so far - it's very sharp and bright, and the gamut seems to be pretty good.

There's a lot of controversy over the 2007wfp because dell did a panel switcheroo half way through the production cycle so lots of the 2007wfp monitors are actually TN panels. Beware.

Google it, there will be a lot of available information on how to identify and be sure you get a SIPS verson.

Oh yeah, that's right. I'm guessing that current production models have all been switched to the Samsung S-PVA (LTM201M1). It's worth investigating. Better yet, take a look at one in person before you buy.

I don't have the option of looking at the monitor before I buy it due to living quite some distance from the nearest dealer. I have been doing the research and would like the S-IPS but wonder how much difference there really is between it and the S-PVA panels. I have looked at the 2407WFP-HC but think it is a S-PVA panel. My wife and I have a part time photography business, mostly sports team photos and seniors. We are using PSE 6.0. This monitor will be used for photo editing and surfing the net. I just want to make sure I get a monitor I can calibrate. All recomendations are appreciated. If I order a 2007 WPF will I be able to ask the Dell rep. to guarantee that it is an S-IPS panel?

Mitch

The 2407WFP-HC calibrates fine. It's actually reasonably close out of the box, but my colorvision Spyder2 produced a small improvement.

Dell's premium monitors will all be fine in this regard (2407 or 2007). S-IPS is not a necessity for a color calibrated display. If you're worried, buy the unit from Costco.com as they offer a 6 month return policy. That should be plenty of time for you to make sure that everything performs to your satisfaction.

Thnaks for the advice,

I checked costco.com but they don't offer either of the monitors I am looking at. Will check with the Dell rep. I am dealing with and see what policy they have on returns.

Mitch

S-IPS is the way to go. This is a good monitor for the money. Too small for my personal tastes, but if it works for you - go for it.

The ideal size I would like is a 22 in widescreen, but none available in S-IPS that I can find. I have been looking at the 2407WFP-HC but it will really push my desktop space. I have considered starting with the 2007WFP and add an additional monitor as I creat more space in my office. Not much more to buy 2 of the 2007 than 1 of the 2407. Maybe by the time I can afford the second there willbe more options. If I call Dell to order the 2007WFP will they guarntee what panel I am getting?

Mitch

Nope. Dell doesn't want to let people know that they've done the switch.

Besides, they've now gone on to the 2008WFP which uses a TN panel!

The 2007WFP is still available through the small business section at Dell. I have a call in to the Rep. I am buying from and hope to have an answer and an order on Monday. He thinks I can still get an S-IPS panel in it.

Mitch

I did a lot of research before I bought my 2007wfp. From what I could determin it was the 2007fp that had the panels switched not the wfp. I really like mine.

According to flatpanels.dk, they switched panels on both of these. However, it was to S-PVA panels, not TN panels, as some have said here.

Right, I believe the 2008 version went to TN panels.

Right, I believe the 2008 version went to TN panels.

Do you mean 2007wfp's made in 2008, or a model "2008"? I thought that someone had mentioned a 2008wfp or something like that, but I have searched the Dell site, and there are no Dell monitors with a "2008" designation, at least not in the government section of the site.

Perhaps I am not yet understanding the distinctions, but I have gathered here and elsewhere that a narrow viewing angle is one way to detect a TN panel. The 2007wfp specs claim a 178-degree angle (+89 to -89), both horizontal and vertical. Does this indeed mean that it is not a TN screen?

Thanks.

you will NOT find a better monitor for digital photography for less than what the Dell 2007WFPcosts. I have it and a NEC20WMGX2.

I just got mine as an early Christmas gift and its absolutely stunning. Like getting much better speakers and then going back and listening to your music collection.
