Is there a way to use multiple cards and not get duplicate (or more) file names? I'm paranoid about having multiple images named IMG-1259 and on.

can you name the write files to start at A / B / C (A001, A002 etc.)? then write a big A / B or C on the cards always stick to the letter no worries

there should be a menu item for sequential numbering of files in your camera body. Then it doesn't matter which card you're using - each file will have a unique number (and it will tell you how many shutter actuations the camera body has made, to boot).

Set your camera to continuous numbering.

Set your camera to continuous numbering.
Thanks for the obvious answer. Didn't quite catch it in the manual.

I use several cameras which irritatingly all start the file name with the same alphabetic sequence. Is there any way of changing it?

Depends on the cameras. With Canons, other than the 1-series, no - you're stuck with a non-unique in-camera file name. I use Downloader Pro to rename with the camera's identifier as I download.
