Well I've tried every setting possible in manual Av,Tv,P CFn-5-2 changes nothing wgen fired. The manual says it will change iso and aperature. No workie any ideas? Ment 580 ex ll

The flash will only show you the aperture. What change were you looking for?

Isn't it suposed to change the iso also it stayed where I set them in manual iso 1600 and paer. at f22 and naturally got a really bad picture

Stayed where? On the camera? If so, you misunderstood what the function does. C.Fn-5=2 means that the flash will go into auto-mode aka external metering mode. In addition, with compatible cameras, like your 40D, the flash will get the ISO and the aperture info from the camera so that the flash will know how much flash to output to get a supposedly good exposure. If you look at the LCD screen of the flash, you'll see the aperture change when you change the aperture on the camera, assuming that you've half-pressed the shutter button.
C.Fn-5=2 doesn't set anything on the camera itself. You have to do that on your own.

Well I'm a total idiot and app. you clearing that up for me Thinking I was getting the super flash
