and here i thought pocketwizards could only trigger your flash units tied to other pocketwizards wirelessly. but no! you can use it as a remote for your camera and other things and other things that still confuse me reading the manual...(i guess im not that advanced yet)

my question is how do you guys attach or keep your pocketwizard when you already have a onboard flash on your hotshoe but still want to control two more flashes set up somewhere else in the room? in your pocket?

I recently purchased a couple of pocket caddies from flashzebra.com. You mount the pocket wizard to the caddy using the 1/4-20 screw that comes with the caddy. The caddy can then be attached to the back of your flash using the small bungee cord that comes with the caddy. The back of the caddy is also indented so you can attach it to your light stand as well. This in an ingenious device and well worth the money! I might mention that both B&H and Midwest Photo also sell the caddy.

What kind of Pocket Wizard do you have? The Multimax? If you have the Plus II, the most advanced thing you can do with it is to trigger your camera and then trigger a remote flash using the relay mode. There's not much more you can do with the Plus II. But the Multimax, now that's a different story. :)

hmm i might pick up a caddy so that my pw can stay put on the stand.

you guys know if theres a male - male thread adapter for that tripod hole on the bottom of my camera that can also provide a thread to screw the pw onto the bottom of my camera? kind of like one of these cable tv couplers (http://www.circuitcity.com/IMAGE/product/detail/blk/EC.BLK.F8V340.JPG)?

trying to have an on camera flash and still be able to control an off camera flash too.

I've got a couple coming in 3-7 days and can't wait :)
The trouble is I can see myself buying another flash and PW to have a dual head off camera setup but luckily (or not for my wallet) my local camera shop has a nice used SB-28 in stock.

You should just be able to attach the PW to a caddy and attach the caddy to the on camera flash. The caddy has a bungee that you can wrap around the on camera flash head.

You can get a screw at Lowe's (and others) that has 1/4 20 threads on both ends

Its virtually the same flash when used off camera, however Nikon flashes have a PC connection built into the flash dating back to the early 90's and can be had relatively cheap compare to Canon. There is only one Canon flash that has a PC connection, 580EX II which can cost $350+.

Stobist blog has more details on why Nikon flashes are better suited than Canon, when money is being considered.

Niether do I but it seems that it was their top of the range one a little while ago. If I end up getting it I'll be firing it off the PW strobist style so it's all good.
