10D or 1D?

I'm thinking of investing in either a 10D or 1D as both seem to be available for a similar price on Ebay. Although the 1D is only 4.2 Mp versus the 10D's 6.5 mp, is the quality of the 1D sensor superior to the 10? Would I be limited by the 4.2 Mp in terms of print quality? Any views would be greatly appreciated! :?

You found a 1D for the same price as a 10D eBay? I would be very leary of that as it may be a scam.

Now if you are trying to figure out which one is best for your needs, what do you shoot mostly? Sports? Landscapes? Portraits? Weddings? What size are you expecting to print most often? 4x6, 8x10, 11x14, 16x20,20x30?

An answer to these questions may make it easier to help you in deciding what you need in the way of a camera.

Like you, motorsports & action pics. I'd be buying secondhand, hence the low prices! I'm thinking the 1D's 1.3x magnification would not be as beneficial as the 10D's 1.6x combined with the pixel count.

The 10D is going to be second hand now too. If you found a 1D for about as much as a 10D ($800) then you are about to be ripped off.

Just my thoughts ...

Used 1D in good condition should be about $1500(if you're very lucky)-2000(realistic). If it's any cheaper, I would suspect fraud (quite common on eBay).
I'd expect a used 10D to be between 800-1000.

I just got done buying a 1D, the best price i found was $1900 and it was in pretty bad shape.

You can get a used 10D body from $700-$850. A used 1D body no matter how many actuations goes for $2000-$2300. Every other month or so you might find one for $1700 but that is extremely rare.

F-1, though you get bigger images and a 1.6 crop, the 1D is not even comparable to the 10D when it comes to sports & high speed stuff, hell it's even considerably faster then the new 20D which is considered pretty fast.

As said before, if you find a 1D under $1400 you are going to get ripped off.

Cheers. All in all, look to spend almost 3x the value of a used 10D for a used 1D.

Of course it is not comparable to a 10D. The 1D is a PROFESSIONAL grade piece of equipment. The 10D is a nice pro-sumer piece of equipment and the 20D is in the same league as the 10D but, it will shoot a higher burst rate than the 10. Compareable to the features, performance and overall construction, the 10D, nor the 20D is anywhere close to the 1D. Kind of like saying a Cadillac and Yugo are both cars and comparable because they both use gas.

The 20D is just a souped up version of the 10D, a higher FPS rate and larger burst. Other than that, your holding a 10D no matter what number is before the D.

Ring around some of the Canon Pro shops (look in any UK mag), they often have trade-ins or Canon refurbs.
