Does anyone know if there is a newer lens hood that will fit this lens? I have researched online but cant find anything useful. Hoping someone might have gone on the same hunt with some results. I want one like the standard for the 70-200 2.8L. What are my options?

Thanks

The stock hood for the 85mm/1.2L, the ES-79, is the very same hood spec'd for the 80-200/2.8L.

how do you like your lens??

I am thinking about getting this vs a new 70-200 f4L

the only thing i am worried about is that it is used and they don't make parts.

what would you recomend 70-200 f4L or 80-200 f2.8L?
(sorry to hijack your thread, I can't ever find anyone with this lens to advise me)

See the other recent thread for some of my thoughts. You should also try to find some people who've handled both lenses. I believe there are a few on Fred Miranda's site.

Nobody can really make the decision except yourself. Off the top of my head, these may be some of the factors to consider:

No USM nor full-time manual focusing on the 80-200
80-200 weighs twice as much as the 70-200/4
Odd (67mm) filter size for 70-200 vs standard (72mm) for the 80-200
Closest focusing distance is ~6 ft for the 80-200 vs 3.9 ft for the 70-200
80-200 is incompatible with Canon 1.4x and 2x teleconverters (3rd-party TCs do work)
Black vs white

Slin 100: thanks I'll check that out.

Kawter2: to answer a couple of questions for you..

I love the lens! If you can get past the fact that it's not white you wont have a problem. Even though this lens is not USM it's not that noticible. My father-in-law bought this lens originally he then upgraded and i bought from him. I have read reviews that say this lens is actually better image quality that the 70-200 2.8L although a little slower. (not much though)

A couple of points- I shoot for my paper and always shoot friday night fball games so having the 2.8 was a must! the f4L (I have shot with it) is a great lens and my buddy says he loves it but wishes he had the 2.8L. but for someone not shooting low light and is planning on mainly shooting daytime you would be safe and probably happy with the f4L but maybe not completely satisfied.

The 80-200 2.8L is an awesome lens by itself, then on top of that you can get one for in-between $600-$800 is a deal. You will not be dissapointed with this lens. It's a solid built lense and image quality is awesome.

Thats my 2 cents.
