Yet another lens question

Hi,

I just sold my 10D with my 28-135 is. I currently own a 20D, a 17-40L, 50 1.4, and a 70-200f4l. I have been looking at getting a 24-70L for many years but after reading many insightful reviews and tests I am begining to wonder if a: I need it at all b: if I wouldn't just be better of getting a 85 1.8 or even a 1.2 for low light and be done with it.

I do value sharpness and low light ability a great deal and the 24-70 is beggining to seem redundant with the lenses I already own, and has less then stellar performance for the weight and money compared to primes.

I would really like to hear from someone who has or has had the 24-70L and either of the 85mm Canons.

I rarely shoot portraits, mostly architechture and landscapes while on vacation, and often interiors.

I have the 24-70 f/2.8L and find it on my cameras more than any other lens. Of course, I do not have the 85mm to compare it to. I do have the 50mm f/1.4, and it is used quite a bit - but I like the ability to get some wider angle and more telephoto shots of the 24-70. I think it is a tack-sharp lens and I have no complaints with it and am extremely glad I got it.

I borrowed a friends 85mm lense and loved it. I have not used the 24-70, but it seems if you do a lot of interior work, having a zoom might be very helpful.

I have had the 24-70 for about a year now, and am very pleased with the results. It is VERY sharp, FAST and produces EXCELLENT color saturation.

Although a bit heavy, it's a great general-purpose lense. I use it primarily for portraits and group pictures, and have used it for landscape pictures as well.

Anyone own both the 24-70 and ne of the 85 mm primes? If so how big is the difference in contrast , sharpness etc?
