I'm new to the forums and I thought I'd start by sharing my site. I try to post a picture a day on the home page but I've got a couple photo galleries as well. Critiques on the site and pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Check it out here: www.nelsonmouellic.com

Thanks!

It is a bit complicated imo. Simple in the eye but navigation kills it.

What's wrong with the navigation? It's not that hard to figure out...

Agree with leninglass, the navigation is what kills it. Otherwise I like the site!

My immediate impression was that the navigation is too busy and complicated, and that was after I found the navigation bar. I initially hovered the mouse around the image of the veggies thinking that the navigation was in there somewhere. I think you need to keep it simple.
My thoughts only.

The navigation function is simple, agreed, and even pretty cool and clever I think, but still unnecessarily cumbersome. Unless I missed other avenues, I had to keep going back to it and use extra mouse clicks to go other places.

Two issues:

It took forever to load for me, and I'm on an 80Mbps connection, which is faster than what 99% of your visitors are going to have. A page needs to load in about 7 seconds, max. Any more than that and people are going to click that little red button in the corner.

Yes, the navigation is far to complex for its own good. Hell, when you page loaded, I found myself looking around for links to the other pages. When I finally noticed the little tab at the top, I tried hovering over it, but it did nothing, so I fanally click on it and got this incredibly complex menu pushing everything on my screen around. There are so many words and font colors and text styles, I didn't know what to click on! In the world of web design, simple equals better, and you could make a much simpler navigation unit that will serve your visitors much better.

And if you're going to have words already in the search box, those words need to clear automatically when someone clicks on the search box.

Honestly it looks pretty similar to a flickr account. Not to be rude or anything, I'm just saying

I think it would help a lot if you put the recent posts down in your footer, and reorganized the nav so it would be statically expanded.

You have a nice site and the nav is cool, but having to reopen it every time is a pain, but I think it would still look good with it permanently open.

I was a bit confused. I open the site straight into A picture. If I was looking at a portfolio, I would like some sort of entrance or a presentational welcome screen, maybe some sort of of introduction as to what the site is about.

The navigation is simple and the colours are pleasing IMO. Very nice showcase on your work but I would consider some sort of welcome/intro for it to be more effective.

The design of the site is nice, good colours, layout. I can understand where people are coming from with the navigation a bit confusing, but I have definitely seen a lot harder. From a young computer user, the navigation is cool and farely straight forward. But not everyone may find it that easy. I think that making the fonts a bit larger might make it easier, but it will also lose the look you were after. It's hard to please everyone and yourself.

Overall the design and layout is nice, good job.

It's hard to please everyone and yourself.

Priority #1: Please your visitors.

Priorities #2-99: See Priority #1.

Priority #100: Please yourself.

Yes, you are right. It isn't that hard. But for the consumers? you have to think of them like they are just 8 year olds. They will only click on something they are interested in. So make it easier for them.

I am a graphic designer and a web designer for over 10 years and this is what I have learned. Don't make your site complicated because you can. Simple is more and thats a fact.
