Yep, too dark. The guys head poking out between the bars takes attention away from your subject as does what appears to be a car door on the left hand side and the bike sort of fades away into the background.

What would be helpful is if you could describe what you are trying to achieve.

not really sure what my goal was here.
just wanted a slightly "different" retro esque bike shot.

I quite liked the guy's head in the pic because he is the owner.
I take on board what you say about the distractions.
