What is the best software for batch scanning prints? I have thousands of prints to scan and would like to make this process as smooth and efficient as possible. Somebody mentioned one that can scan four prints in one pass. What do you recommend?

With Photoshop CS, you can scan as many prints as will fit on the scanner. PSCS will then automatically separate the images. However, it's not a 100% sure thing. Some images which have distinct squares or rectangles in them can fool PSCS into thinking that they are separate images and break them apart accordingly.

A thousand prints to scan? That's a lot! I cringe at even the thought of having to scan a hundred or so prints, let along a thousand.

Good luck!

Thanks PacAce! I'll see if I can get my hands on PSCS. I don't look forward to the number of prints I have to scan. This project will take months.

Just make sure you save the scanned images as soon as you can like maybe after 3 or 4 batches. It's no fun having to rescan prints the second time around because the program locked up somehow before you had a chance to save them to disk.

I just got my hands on the PS CS and tried scanning multiple prints at once and then using the crop and straighten feature to break them into separate files. The verdict - it works great.

PS does a good job of figuring out where one photo ends and another begins provided you don't put them too close together. Thanks for the tip PacAce.
